It wasn't Keane or Scholes being the problem, it was Verón not fitting in a team that was used to playing 4-4-2. He was better suited for a three man midfield and playing the game in a different pace and style. So no, he didn't fit either because there was a fundamental clash of styles. In Europe you would suddenly see Verón become superhuman, and next weekend he looked off his game again...

In any case, getting to the bottom of it is a bit irrelevant, I can't see a single United supporter seeing those two and thinking anything other than "won't work, didn't work, SAF tried different things and none of them worked, so why would Balu pull it off?".

I'm on the same page, a lot of his attributes are already present in that midfield but I could see Verón pulling the strings and these two playing box-to-box either side of him.

I think it could work. The classic "what happens if Keano is caught upfield" now requires both box-to-box players being caught upfield, farr less likely.

I'm pretty sure I would be in a minority though.

Indeed, there was an element of that. That midfield four had been so perfect, so brilliant... why? Who is he? Why should we leave him to pull the strings?

Don't think it was nasty. Well, maybe with Keano as we know he is a cnut, and maybe a bit Becks because he fancied himself as a central playmaker, and Scholes looked completely out of sorts and not very comfortable about it all.

Fact is, as far as 95% of the season was concerned it was completely unnecessary, but then in the other 5% we were found wanting. Can't blame SAF, he always wanted more. He didn't try, he just went for it and got there... eventually at least.

Lucho wasn't a steal, he was fairly priced. I had a 40M budget for him and expected that to make him my second most expensive player. 45M would have been top heavy sentimental.

Yeah I'd add Robben in to that list. Stam is cheap compared to Vidic, but other than that about right. Luis Enrique's a great signing, but his price is a fair reflection of his worth.

I'm thinking of it compared to others at his position. Surprisingly we see JT going for 34, Vidic for 43, Carvalho at 34, Cannavaro at 43(so far), Chiellini for 30... I'd argue pretty easily that Stam is better than all of them maybe bar Cannavaro.

As for Lucho(for both of you), yeah I agree that's a fair price to him. That's why I'm so excited. I'd say 60M is fair for Nedved too and thats a bargain, because these are players that you'd expect would be inflated.

Not at the moment.

I think the transfer market is going to get a lot more active near the end. You're going to have a few cash strapped teams and a few who savers looking to take advantage. It's probably wiser to sell now but it's a bit riskier since you're never guaranteed to land your replacements.

I think Terry, Carvalho, Silva and Vidic are over-priced. Stam's fair in relation to Cannavaro and Thuram (50m).

Davids is a good buy as well at 20m cheaper than Keane.
 
With Ferdinand going for a shocking 48m, it sort of puts Silva at 49m into perspective, don't you think? Silva who is a much better central defender going for only 1m more than Rio "can't get a game at Moyes' United" Ferdinand? @AldoPaine18

I think Terry, Carvalho and Vidic are over-priced. Stam's fair in relation to Cannavaro and Thuram (50m).

Davids is a good buy as well at 20m cheaper than Keane.

Yeah I agree, since it's the caf Keane was bound to be costly, but I think it's an overall fair price with the votes he'll get here. Davids for 20M less is a great price, and if you look at this that way, I'd say Seedorf for 10M less than Davids is a good buy, I might be seriously bias but I'd say Seedorf is as good as Davids
