Why are those Gooners so excited about signing Arteta?

Arsenal supporters in the early euphoric stages of denial.
I have no idea what is going on at Chelsea but I am concerned about it. It is very clear that Villas-Boas wants to play a fluid and attacking orientated team with emphasis put on width. Why therefore did rumours about Daniel Sturridge going out on loan or being sold reach critical mass today besides Benayoun and Malouda as well which continues?
We remain short of optimal width - we are in a much stronger position than last year but we're not at the point to allow what we have to leave. The right flank has been a problem position for us for years so why our only right winger who hasn't had a chance at Chelsea is on the verge of leaving, to Arsenal no less, is extraordinary.
If he is to leave, and we end up playing Kalou on that side, my confidence in Villas-Boas is going to fall significantly.
