Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has said he has had the worst moments of his career with the club this season and needs clarity about his future role with the newly-crowned European champions.

Spain international Torres told Spanish sports daily As he had been bitterly disappointed at being left out of the starting line-up for Saturday's Champions League final and said if it had not been for the support of the fans during a difficult campaign he would have "thrown in the towel".
"This season I have felt things that I had never felt before," As quoted Torres – who was reported to have been denied the opportunity to take a penalty in the final shoot-out with Bayern Munich – as saying.
"I felt that they treated me in a way that I was not expecting, not in the way we spoke about when this club signed me," added the former Liverpool player.
"We have had a lot of conversations and at the end of the season we will talk to see what happens with my future because what I have experienced this year is not a role for me, the one I thought I would have when I came, I am not happy," he said.
"A victory like the one in Munich provides some compensation but I want them to tell me what is going to happen in the future.
"Right now yes I do feel that football is worth all the effort but I have had very bad moments. The worst of my career. And I don't want to have them again."
Torres moved to Chelsea from Liverpool in January 2011 in a £50 million deal but has struggled for form and confidence, although he improved notably in the latter stages of this season.
At one point Torres had gone 25 hours without a goal but scored twice in an FA Cup win over Leicester City, hit his first Chelsea hat-trick in a heavy defeat of QPR and netted a dramatic last-gasp equaliser at Barcelona as his side went through to the Champions League finals.

For £30 would it be a good deal for us? IMHO it's worth a try, I do still rate him a lot. What do you think?

Worth a punt, how much would he go for now, £15-20m?

With the departures of Berba, Owen and possibly Macheda we might need a new bench warmer.

I honestly wonder if there is anybody that some caftards wouldn't say is 'worth a punt'.

If we want a striker who can't score, let's buy Heskey, he'd be a lot cheaper.

He doesn't like not being the main man. He wouldn't want to compete with Rooney, hence his problems with fitting in with Drogba. Would also hamper Welbeck's development.

What an idiot. What right does he have to start in that game considering the shocking form he has shown during the season. I think the goal that drogba scored pretty much vindicated the fact that Di Matteo was right to start him. Torres needs to concentrate on getting back to a decent standard rather than complain about being on the bench when that's all he deserves

It would just lead to Rooney playing on the left wing in big matches which is a crime IMO.

It doesn't matter who he's played for, what he'd cost and what he'd expect his role to be. Look at him. He's a pale imitation of his old self. This has been going on for years, not months. It's not form, it's a player whose best days are behind him.

To bring a player like that in and harm Welbeck and Hernandez's development would be daft, IMO.

He should go back to Spain. Will probably end up at Malaga or summat.

Sounds a lot like Michael Owen before we signed him. In fariness he was a freebie.

Listen, cnutflaps Nando, this is not the time to complain about a lack of game time. You're lucky Roman hasn't fed you to the dogs yet with those performances you've put in.

Not only that, but Drogba has basically justified his inclusion every time he's been picked in the run-in. A superior striker, simply. And seemingly a superior mind as well. Torres has to be a bit thick.

Don't want him anywhere near United.

He'll go back to Atletico if he returns to Spain. Always said he'll go back there one day.

Awful timing, childish complaint. He got star billing over Drogba for much of the season and didn't put the ball into the back of the net to justify a first XI place. Had he buried chances like the one where he went around De Gea at Old Trafford arguably AVB wouldn't have got fired...

Put him on a plane, send him back to Spain....

I honestly can't see how people keep saying 'yeah I'd take a punt on him at £20 odd million'. Ffs, 20 million pounds!? For a 'punt'?! For a player that hasn't played well for over 2 years now!? It's madness. Utter, utter madness.

And fwiw, I honestly havent seen any signs that he's still 'got it' what so ever. He looks shit everytime I see him, and has done for two years. He wont ever be the player he was.

FWIW I reckon he is on his way back. He has been a player shorn of any confidence for a couple of years but recently his touch is back and he looks happy to be playing again. I think he will be scoring lots of goals for someone soon. Of course he is still a moany little twat but I think he has got some top level goal scoring in him yet.

I think he did well when he came on in the final to be honest. He needs to feel trusted by both his manager and teammates though, and not be someone who feels he has to prove himself in every single game.

That pricetag of his gave him that burden, and he suffered the same faith as Carroll and Berbatov.

still think that in the right team, he's show form again. Injuries have hampered him somewhat, when he was younger it looked like one day he had the potential to be BPITW. Nothing a sympathetic manager and a team creating chances for him wouldnt help

I think he still have it in him to score goals, but the sheer ferociousness of his game was in his acceleration and his change of pace, and his pure power. He doesn't have that anymore. Lost the explosiveness trying to bulk up is my guess, he looks much bigger than when he came to the league.

Alas, I don't think he'll ever be the same player he once was.

And Fernando, if you're looking for clarity: You were fecking shit all season, that was why you were benched in the final.

He would be trusted if he didn't play so damn badly. It's a two way street. You don't just walk into clubs who are expected to win top honors and expect everyone to be at your feet. It's the difference between Liverpool and United/Chelsea/Real/Barca i.e teams with big expectations. At Liverpool everything Luis Suarez does is gold. It's easy to get unconditional trust because he's so much better than others. At the other clubs, you're never going to be far better than everyone else, so you have to earn the respect and trust through performing week in week out.

Obviously that goes without saying, but he must've felt like he had to justify his pricetag from the very moment he arrived at the club which is why he played badly (and being injuried all the time probably didnt help either). I think he would've really been bright next season if he started the final and felt like he now had done enough to prove his pricetag and could start fresh in the next season.

He has looked back in form over the last month of the season - I haven't got the exact stat but he has created a shit load of goals for Chelsea this year.

Yeah, I think that too. He's still young. Shouldn't be written off.

Don't want him at United, mind you. Seems to need to be the main man to perform. A bit like Tevez.

Totally agree, Rooney playing behind him in a 4-2-3-1 would be perfect. He has been crap at Chelsea, but they play with no wingers. Here he would have 2 wingers offering regular service and Rooney in constant support.

Basically all the things he has been lacking at Chelsea. WE have see their strengths in this CL campaign, and that doesn't fit a player like Torres.

If Fergie could get his confidence back up, he would be an absolute revelation here, in front of Rooney imo.

I can paypal him £40 now if that's what it takes.

he had his chance to play for us, rejected. So F him.

Also i do not want damaged goods.

The other thing about bringing Torres to United is we've already got Welbeck. Similar traits to Torres as a striker plus younger and a local lad to boot.

I would actually think that Torres would replace someone like Hernandez if he ever came to the club. Someone who would be great ahead of Rooney in the 4-2-3-1 / 4-4-1-1 / whatever you want to call it, who is able to run in behind the defense but also provide the link-up play that Chicarito seems to be unavailable to contribute to these days.
