We only need 1 new defender. But play G Neville in the centre.
:D

So much criticism of the players we are supposedly after. People have opinions, but we should also have faith in Fergie and the UTD scouts. I don't think any of us have any where near enough experience, expertise or insights to make good judgement on their choices. After all it is their profession, I mean they do it for a living, and they undoubtedly want what is best for the club more than any of us do. For the last decade, I think no more than a few of our signings have been awful, 80-90 % have been terrific. If we do end up with some 29-30yrs old players, may be they are the only best ones that we really could sign. There are constraints involve, and it takes more than just one party to complete a transfer. We can't possibly just buy any players we want. So I trust we will end up getting the best players we could possibly get anyway. No worry.

Its interesting to note now, after the world cup how many people are choosing Ronaldo over Cisse.
There was a poll before the WC where everyone thought Cisse would be the one to watch for & buy. How quick peoples opinions can change.
Cisse IMO isnt a patch on a 75% fit Ronaldo.

In fairness, everyone who went for Cisse went for him on fitness grounds, which wasn't a bad point at all. Had Ronaldo limped off in the group stages for another 6-12 months he simply wouldn't be on that list.

Either way, Ronaldo coming just won't happen. Inter are unlikely to want to sell except for a stupid amount of money. Only hope would be Ronaldo wanting to move which I doubt, after spending all those years in agony yet being fully supported by Inter must count for something loyalty-wise. I cannot see Ronaldo turning his back on them, I would even dare say not even Nike could make him think otherwise.

for the sake of pure summer transfer dreaming...

if you could have Ronaldo in the shape that hes in now or Cisse who would u take?

I cannot understand this 40% fixation for a 30M defender. Let's face it, a 30M defender will be far from sorting out our problems/making us unbeatable.

I would go for:

-Sell Veron to buy Ronaldinho, he can do the hole, either side of midfield or partner RVN. Would switch around to add a new dimension in tactical options and excellent backup for injured players in any of those positions.

-Instead of 30M for Rio, spend them on Ayala and Thuram or Nesta (i.e. Ayala + one of them two).

Solid defence + tactical variations/creativity/imagination. UNSTOPPABLE!

I said Ronaldo before the WC, why would I change my mind now? You are talking ORDINARY vs. EXTRAORDINARY!

Well, I've decided the dream signing list for the Summer is:

In: Nesta (30m), Ferdinand (30m), Ronaldo (40m), Duff (15m)

Out: Veron (28m), Yorke (5m), Scholes (27m), Fortune (5m)

Spending: 50m - that's within budget, right?

I think i voted for Ayala. It was either him or Rio. All i knew was that if we had to buy one player over summer it would have to be a defender. I, like most people, never envisaged us having a problem scoring goals. We had a terrible defence last year and it needed sorting.

Right now (with the ongoing goaldrought), I think Cisse. We better catch up with this guy anyway. 20 years and damn good!
