Top Transfer Target

yep thats my vote AYALA.

solid experienced all rounder to boulster the defence, bring on brown and o'shay as well as blanc and won't cost a arm a leg and a left bollock which should leave muller for other signings that ARE needed.

Ayala possibly represents the best value for money. He would also help Seba settle into the team better. Plus it would leave plenty of money for a full back, and a link man. Finnan would be good or Bridge. I still think for 4-6M Di Canio is worth a run, he is very creative and can do the job for 2 years while Forlan grows into his place in the team. ;)

If you could have Tudor, with his size, pace & youth for @15 million what more would you want?

A Tudor who's fit ocassionally as well.

But I agree, 15m for a player like him is great value.

Rio.

Because, he's the better of the handful that we are actually interested in.

but for the price that leeds have put on the table?

Damn you O'Leary, if he is to give up Rio, he'll definately milk him for all he's worth. But then again, if Leeds can't sell any of their other players, they might be forced to sell for a cut price to beat the trade deadline...but then again I doubt it, that's just wishful thinking...

yeah, very very low standards. to think he plays every game out of position for the scousers, everyone knows he is a natural center back.

Duff or Sas, Davala, Rustu and Rio
8mil + 8mil + 6mil + 30 mil=52
out
Veron + Forlan + Yorke = 35 mil

1. Duff would cost closer to 15m

2. Forlan will be a Red for years to come, which is a good thing.

Forlan is a player for the future. Fergie wouldn't sell him yet.

I think it has been fashionable to put down Nesta. If Rio is being judged on the basis of the world cup, cuz it sure as hell can't have been on the strength of his Leeds' performances then I'd rather we pay the silly money on Nesta's world cup performances that Rio's. Anyway, we would also be negotiating from a position of strength vis-a-vis Lazio than Leeds since they owe us the Stam money.

Point to note on Nesta:
The Italian defence after he went off injured was in shambles.

Speculation:
Did United cool out on the Thuram deal so that Juve could not afford to compete with us for Nesta?

;)

Hardly. Nesta played against Ecuador (hardly impressive that they got a clean sheet there). He went off in the 24th minute against Croatia, played in the 1-1 draw against Mexico, and didn't play in the loss to S Korea.

I thought Italy were lucky to draw Croatia after Nesta went off. Cannavaro barely carried the rest.

And I think him not playing against Korea when they conceded from a ball lobbed into the six-yard box kinda goes some way to proving my point doesn't it?

I think that says more about the Italian defence rather than on Nesta...

I would vote for Damien Duff because he is bloody
brialliant. He is young/skillful and lightning quick.

IMO Rio for 35million is just crazy and not economical. For that much money we can get :
Thuram + Ayala + Di Canio + Recber (18+10+3+5=36)
Arguably these are 4 world class players who should last 2-5 years individually, about 12yrs worth of service altogether, and will cover for 4 positions. The injuries had cost us at least a premier league champion and a euro championship the last couple of years. With no less than 5-7 players leaving (we are getting little for them and the PLC will not fork out 40+ million), we need to sign a few top quality replacements rather than spend it all on 1 great player. Or we will be lacking in depth again.

You need some perspective - defensive phenomenons are rare. All you need is reliable and solid. £35m reliable is not much different from £200k reliable.

Ronaldo is a phenomenon. People said Giggs was the next Best but he isnt is he? People will keep on saying "new Best" until the new Best comes along.

But people have been saying "the new Ronaldo" for years now. Shevchenko was the white Ronaldo! Cisse is the new ronaldo. Adriano = new ronaldo etc etc. just like D'Allesandro, Aimar, Saviola were all the new Maradona.

Given the chance, would you have taken a prime Best, Pele or Maradona? Ronaldo is that man, he is on their level.

Defense is our priority, but with individual players, Ronaldo would always be top of my list.

I want the two: Ferdinand and Ronaldo! :D

Could it happen?

Think not! :(

Good god, can you all imagine what RVN and Ronaldo would be like????? We are talking a team GD of +120 here!

The defenc wouldn't matter at all, it really would be you score ten we'll score fifty!

Hoping! :D

Agree, Weaste. We're on the brink of being absolutely incredible. Lets hope our current crop rise to the occasion just like the last time they went empty handed too.

And Fergie also, Last time we won jack shit he went all out and plugged our gaps perfectly. over for Giggs, a real replacement for Cantona and a real WC defender. Exactly what we need now. Except we may also need a LB...or a GK if Barthez goes.

Moratti does not want to let Ronaldo go.
The last quote of the article reads:

"With this victory he now has a duty to give us the Scudetto because he's staying with us, and there's no reason to think otherwise" (in other words: hands off Manchester United, Real Madrid and co ;) ).
I can only see him move to us if he himself insists such a move, Inter themselves won't be doing stupid things...

Youd have ta pick a few players
steve carr on of the best full backs in the game
steve finnan as above
nesta strong in the air and can play ball
duff what a talent
ronoldo if nike pay his wages
if we could sign even half of these to play along side of o'shea and butt with wes brown wed have a team to rival the great 68 side

I cant believe the hype thats accompanying Rio. £35 mill is mad money. He's good but not that bloody good. We could buy an entire defence with that money. What if he pay the £35m and he misses as many matchs as he does for Leeds. Id pay £20m and maybe £25m but no way that much. We could get Ronaldo for that kind of money. Now there's a dilemma, Rio or Ronaldo??? You'dhave to be nuts to take Rio!

Rio will come for around 24-26 million if he comes. Ronaldo is a different matter al together - it will be a World record signing fee - we're talking around 55 million quid there!

What if it happens?

Maybe we should buy Leeds United for a third of the fee for Ronaldo, rename it Manchester United (Leeds) FC and make a load of dosh from it! ;)

We could buy the whole club for less than the signing fee of Bowyer, Smith, and Fowler.

Rio Ferdinand would then be free!
