Top Gear America

Tanner is good but the other two really should go. I don't understand why the producers try to make it so much like the other top gear. Its the same as the Australian version. You can't do it so stop trying to do it. The show is just far too plastic to work. I'd rather them chuck Faust, Block and Pastrana at it.

Screw that. Put me on it. I'd be more interesting than 2 of the guys on the current Top Gear USA. I'd be a May copy since I'm pretty boring, but I could bring something to the show aside from lame jokes.

My biggest issue so far is that they have to get funding from car companies so they can't really rip on cars often. Some of the challenges are pretty lame too. At the beginning of the show, it would have been good to get a huge cross country trip in crappy cars or something. Just to get it off on an epic start.

the US version is probably the one which would appeal to a wider audience, as the comedy is more direct, more obvious, where the situations most of the time are pretty ridiculous. While the original was much more of a clever show, where the realism really adds to the show, and it has a great ending to the whole thing

Well, I might have never got it. I think I watched it when I was 16 or 17 and my English wasn't exactly perfect so some things may have escaped. Besides I can't help but laugh at every single thing that Michael does in the US version, well I used to because in a process of getting him off the show they managed to make him somewhat annoying. Still Jim is the worst, he used to be amusing and he turned into one of the most annoying figures anywhere on TV, I literally hate the way he is now.

They actually have a second season? Wonder how they got approved. They are not even 1% of the UK's Top Gear, which is one of my favorite shows.

I must say, I quite like it, but you know the audience they're appealing too. So much of the show is about trucks and what have you. One thing I found stupid thought about last night is the pulling power test. Sure a train has wheels but so does a trailer....... they do good and bad thngs but moe then anything Rutlidge has to go.

I actually think Faust is pretty good. He knows what he's talking about and doesn't try to over do it. The burnout thing was classic UK topgear

Wonder when our boys will meet them in a challenge.

The episode with the Aussie presenters was good fun.

Yeah I watched the whole Aussie episode on youtube as well. They included it as part of a tour of Britain and going through the history and current state of the British car industry. Very entertaining and interesting and those Aussie lads work as opposed to the Americans by the sounds of it. Also the British version has them coming in on a prison van, they just role up in their cars in the Aussie version.

Top Gear America's hosts aren't great. Tanner is the best of the group, while the other two are just boring. One is fat and nerdy, while the other is the stereotypical Italian-American type. They bring very little to the show and are hamstrung by the need to appease sponsors and those who donate the cars. If Chrysler are going to get upset if they give an accurate review of a car, they probably won't do it. And that undermines the show.

There is also the scripting. Every single thing they say sounds scripted and produced. While obviously lots of Clarkson, May, and Hammond's lines are scripted, they are more natural. There is also banter, which doesn't really exist in the US version. I would rather hear Clarkson spouting off useless crap about a car than someone regurgitating a list of facts the read on a postcard right before they got in.
