Top 4 race 2016/17

Bit demoralizing that teams above us ain't dropping points.

Look at the bright side mate. The gap is smaller right now. If we win today and looking at others fixture, our chances is getting bigger to finish in the top four.

City vs spurs next week should be interesting to watch. Hope it ended in draw

I can see Spurs beating City.

When you take the Gundogan injury into consideration, they've added very little to improve their squad compared to the others.
Yep, especially their defence is a shambles. They can't play the Guardiola way with those players.

1-0 to Everton would have been a great result, now we have to go to City next week and face an angry animal.

Table at half time

Won't be over (top four) if we lose. Damaging though if the performance is the same in the second half.

Good results from Spurs' point of view. We stay 2nd and the gap to United widens to effectively 6 points.

This is what its all about now and tbh I don't know who we're going to displace for top 4. Fancy us to finish ahead of City but Chelsea will obviously make top 4, Liverpool almost definitely will too, Tottenham are the most in-form team in the league and Arsenal always nmanage it. Worrying.

Big blow to your top 4 hopes.

Agreed. Major top 4 rival who are missing 4 1st teamers at home is 2 points dropped.
All the teams above us are beating the bottom half teams with ease.
To close the gap we need to pick up points in the top6 mini league. Home advantage is massive. We dropped the ball today I'm afraid.

Don't think it's a bit blow at all tbh, still very much in the hunt (man utd).

4 points is nothing.

If Spurs do manage to win next weekend, I'll feel relatively confident of top four and would consider us one of Chelseas main competitors.

It's a big ask though, especially after such a big loss. I'll be happy with a draw tbh.

The main thing now is how we respond. The thing I love about this United team is that we don't seem to lose hope. We keep going. Something that we didn't really have under LvG. So I'm not too worried that dropping points today will crush the team. We have to bounce back in the next match though.

The magnitude of City's defeat today isn't good news for us.

It's over. We did well to come back but fixtures are against us now. Today was a must win.

Agreed. They'll be looking for a big reaction and I think they'll come at us hard from the beginning. We'll need to stop them scoring early imo and try to get back at them later on in the match.

At least gundogan and fernandinho are out. And their cbs are donkeys.

You'll destroy them. They'll crumble under your pressure and they can't defend for shit.

It's true that 4 points is not a large gap to recover from. However, our display against the dippers just makes me think we aren't good enough to be top 4. I've been pessimistic all season about our chances. Recent form has been good but I see us dropping lots of points still and I can't see everyone else above us doing so as well.

Top 6 mini table

Number of home games left:
Liverpool, Man City - 3
Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs - 2
Man Utd - 1

Number of away games left:
Arsenal, Man Utd - 3
Chelsea, Man City, Spurs - 2
Liverpool - 1

Well that was shit. I thought we were better, but we absolutely bottled it out there. I thought Mourinho had us further along, but it looks like I was mistaken. These are games we needed to win if we were going to battle it out for second, but instead it'll be a tough battle for fourth because of our embarrassing point totals against the rest of the top six.

This is the problem we gave ourselves. One single bad result and we're back to being multiple results going our way to even get into 4th. 3 wins in 11 is just too big a handicap to come back from, it's over 1/4 of the season.

Chelsea and Liverpool have gimmes against Hull and Swansea coming up next, but then they have to play each other after that. Guaranteed points dropped.

We have to step it up. Winning against Stoke is non-negotiable. We have to take our chances better.

Spurs are now looking like a serious contender for the title, they're playing incredibly well and Pochettino has done a very impressive job.

The biggest losers this weekend? City. Surely, Guardiola must be under pressure. I bet they are regretting sacking Pellegrini so harshly now.

I don't think you're even close to being out of it (just as u didn't think you were when you were 9 points behind) but I guess this is the other side of the argument.

We're all dropping so few points to the other teams that our games against each other will end up deciding the positions. And that means the home games, especially if the rivals have a few of their players missing, are vital.

Still, Liverpool haven't won in a few games now.....
