Top 3 Premier League players of all-time

Did Scholes really only get 55 premier league assists? Seems shockingly low

That's because Scholes scores goals ;) 238 G/A for United.

For comparison, Xavi had 269 G/A for Barcelona in 51 more appearances. I can't be bothered with the exact count, but Scholes definitely had more G/A than Pirlo too (not including MLS etc).

But I get where you are coming from. Considering his incredible vision and passing range you would expect more assists, even though he spent most his time in a midfield two. I think Scholes was more of a hockey-assist type. He'd ping the ball to the wingers and fullbacks who would then square it into the box for the striker. Giggs and Beckham had almost 400 assists combined for United! I'm sure that Scholes played a part before many of those assists.

Salah? Must be recency bias.
No doubt there's recency bias with Salah. I wonder if he'll be considered top3 by so many in 5-10 years time, but I guess a lot depends on what he still wins this season (way too many trophies for him compared to others in the top3) and what he does in the next 2-3 years.

I wonder how long Henry remains in this conversation and for how long he'll be remembered as one of the absolute greatest of the Premier League era. Make no mistake - no doubt he was absolutely class, has four Golden Boots (the most) to his name, but his trophy hauls is a little bit unamusing with only two league wins with Arsenal, no Champions League trophy and three FA cups. Certainly not bad, but it's already been bettered by many other players and if Pool win the league this season (which seems inevitable) Salah will have arguably a better haul with better numbers.

Then again, producing on the level Henry produced 15 years ago was surely a bigger feat than having such output today. So it's difficult to compare.

Also if we look at the trophies it never ceases to amaze my how much more Giggs won compared to any other Premier League era player. Absolutely insane to think he's on 13 league titles. Behind him are only his teammates, first non-United players on that list are KdB, Foden, Ederson, Walker, Stones and Bernardo Silva tied on 6. Absolutely insane how much Giggsy has now, I doubt we'll ever see any other player get close to his league haul, nevermind better him.

Rooney was one of the best I ever seen. I have never seen a number 10 slide tackle a defender near our byline then proceed to book it to the other end and contribute to a goal. Probably the most well rounded player i have ever seen. His intensity before the hair loss was something I haven't seen since.
He was very underrated. Rooney after the hair was a diffrent player.

Scholes is the only player I've seen with that high of a footballing iq. His passing was something I've never seen from another player before or since. He knew where players would be or are without looking. That range was something else. And control games like I have never seen. A joy to watch.

Gosh we are so bad right now. Not one player that excites me. And none are world class. Sorry Bruno is not even close.

Henry, Rooney, Salah for me as well - not sure on the order though.

Ronaldo peak-for-peak would have to be in their but I'm assuming this is greatest not best, or at least a combination of both (which probably puts him #4 for me). And he just wasn't in the PL for long enough to make a dent in terms of his all-time numbers.

I guess Lukaku is better than Baggio, Bergkamp and Cantona then?
I said they have a lot of weight, not that it is the be all and end all.

There is a reason that nobody is really saying Shearer for example despite him having scored the most goals.

I guess Lukaku is better than Baggio, Bergkamp and Cantona then?
Baggio got himself a total of 323 G+A in the Italian league back when it was the best in the World. (429 in all competitions) I get what you are saying, but he is not your guy to make that valid argument.

This kind of discussion is always going to be skewed towards offensive players but it's hard for me to look past a guy like Ashley Cole, although maybe he gets dinged for shooting that guy
