Antoine Griezmann has been told he can rival Paul Pogba as the biggest shirt seller in world football if he joins Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho’stop summer target is already one of the fastest-growing commercial properties in the game.

But a top agent has told the Atletico Madrid forward that he would take his status to a new level if he moved to Old Trafford.

Esteve Calzada - CEO of Prime Time Sport - even claims Griezmann’s global profile would be bigger at United than if he joined Spanish giants Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Calzada - former chief marketing and commercial officer at the Nou Camp - told ESPN: “Playing in the UK is always more lucrative, as the market is bigger than the Spanish market.

“Griezmann has a large collection of brands, which is very remarkable considering he is not playing for any of the really top teams.

“Atletico are a big team, but they are not Barcelona or Real Madrid or Manchester United.

“We have seen the impact Pogba has created (since joining United).

“I am being told that he is the number one shirt seller in the world. So with Griezmann probably something similar could happen.”

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi establishing themselves as the two greatest players on the planet at Real and Barca respectively, Calzada has warned about the negative impact of joining one of Spain’s big two.

He said: “Sometimes brands fear associating themselves with a Barca or Madrid player, just to avoid any potential negatives from the opposite side.

“It reminds me a little bit of 2010, when the most popular Spain player in terms of image rights was David Villa. He was playing for Valencia then, but he was much more successful than any Barca or Madrid player, just because of this lack of polarisation effect.”

Should Griezmann complete a move to United he is expected to be handed the No7 shirt, which has graced the back of some of Old Trafford’s greatest like George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Calzada added: “That is an iconic number, which helps.

“But it is just one nice thing in the picture. As long as you are a United regular, in the team, you are gonna be big.”

Would rather he sat his arse in Spain then come here to increase his brand value, this is everything wrong with Manchester United right now. As soon as he arrived the distractions would begin, just like Pogba.

Bollocks it is, this right here is our biggest competitive edge when it comes to getting the big stars ahead of others.

Stopped reading at 'MEN via MSN'.

I deliberately put the credentials of the 'expert' interviewed at the bottom for the sceptics.

Also the name of a really annoying Australian poker player.
Was really confused when i read the headline :)

Can you actually shorten Antoine to 'Tony' though?

I don't want him if he's only attraction is to improve his brand. What the feck have we become?

I'd rather the motivation was to become the best player in the world and win everything with us. Feck off with the brand bollocks

I can't help getting the impression Greizmann is a big time charlie.

Brilliant player but the sort of character which is easy to dislike for an oppo fan so in that sense I do hope we are the one who get him!

Our sales pitch: Join United and you can be bigger than other notable bellends such as TC23 and MP7

If Griezmann puts 'Tony G' on the back of his No.7 Manchester United shirt I'll truly respect him.

He hasn't actually said any of this

This is stupid. The only way you build your brand is obviously by winning stuff and contributing. It's not like you sit simply your brand will improve just because you are at United. Owen didn't improve his brand like CR or Beckham did just because he got 7 jersey

The fact is that the brand is saving us from an even worse decline.

I agree with the posters saying we shouldn't become a club where players sole focus is to improve their brand awareness. That is if it does become the case. If it is a swing factor for top players then I have no problem with it.

Join United. Become an emoji and a haircut, and have your weekly wage printed next to your name in every match report where your name is mentioned.

And on occasion, you might even be known for your football. Might.

Probably not though.
