Toni Kroos

Apologies if this has already been covered, but I haven’t read the whole thread.

Did LvG really veto the chance to sign Kroos after Moyes had already laid down the foundations for his transfer?

Pretty sure I read something along those lines.

Mental if true.

I just can't understand for a second the logic behind turning your nose up at Toni Kroos because we have Fred (who hasn't played a second for us yet) and Herrera. I don't think many other people would understand either.
Simply because its not what we need. It is simply brainless to buy every top player that becomes available just because they are available.

You do need Kroos though, you have no one can currently fulfill his role

I'm sorry but Kroos is exactly what we need. None of Matic, Pogba, Fred or Herrera can actually control a midfield and it is something that every successful team needs. Pogba is best when playing in a free Lampard like role, whilst Fred is more of a shuttler between lines. Matic is good at breaking up attacks but not at launching them with incisive through balls. We need a Scholes-esque Deep Lying Playmaker and there aren't many better than Kroos. Of course whether there is any actual chance of signing him, that's a completely different story.

Would be mental for Madrid to sell Kroos and I don't think they will. He's 28 and hasn't shown signs of regressing yet so he can give atleast a couple more years of high level performances.

He's not coming but how do we not need Kroos? We're crying out for a midfielder who can actually run a game of football.

How can people say we don’t need Kroos? He’d be fecking perfect and a player like him would transform the team.

Read about a €500m release clause though. feck that.

He's washed.

Is there any credible source that says he might leave? i dont see it, he wont move for another few years. Real will sell him on the decline, he is at his prime still

Won't happen, not with any RM players. He hasn't got any reason to leave and if he is mentioning Utd it is to get a new and better contract at Madrid.

Hehehe.
Even the Swansea supporter knows it. ;)

Unfortunately, Kroos is not available, so we need to move on from this ridiculous non-transfer.
For those who are in "muppet mode", just go to the Griezmann thread. AG provides an endless supply of transfer hints.

He plans to retire in his early 30s

“I will be 32 by the time my contract ends, and that's certainly a point where I won't have a long way to go as a player, or at least that's the plan right now,” Kroos told Kicker. “Sure, I don't know how I'll feel then, but there is no plan that includes playing football at 38 or 39.

“If I were to predict it today, it's more likely that I'll call it a day. But I can't give an exact prognosis yet.”

Then he will retire either at Madrid or go to the Bundesliga for a season or two if his heart is in it and then retire.

I could definitely see him having a Schweini-type of decline, to be honest.

He does a lot of charity as well and I think he runs his personal foundation in a very hands-on manner.

Different style, I could actually see him continue to thrive, given the right environment - like Pirlo. However if he really wants to retire that early, fair play. He has basically already won everything there is.

It's not happening. But if he was available, he's one of those players you just go for. He would instantly be our best midfielder, you dont turn your nose up at that kind of signing just because you have Herrerra and Fellaini already sat on the bench.

I really doubt it.

His character reminds me a lot of Lahm. He will retire as soon as he starts declining. Maybe even before that. I also don’t think football is that important to him. He’s won everything there is. I guess he’ll soon have other priorities in life. He’s just not one of those guys who try to squeeze out everything he’s left.

I saw him at Manchester Airport train station circa May 2014.

Really?

I find it weird that we signed Shaw and Herrera (with LVG approving it) but not Kroos. It makes not much sense. As it doesn't for him to choose us over Madrid.

no it was a media spin from lvg, because kroos turned us down. Kroos has spoken about it last year and he choose to go to Real when the opportunity came up. Its was a no brainer, defending champions league winners or 7th place EPL finishers. Anybody who believes LVG turned him down is a moron just like LVG, this guy was chasing ghosts all summer to make deals happen and convince players to come.

This place, they complain about the ball taking too long to reach the attackers. Then turn up their nose at someone who would fix the problem

He's different. Schweinsteiger has had a higher peak but was a much more physical player with less accurate passing. Kroos' game is pretty much based around passing and vision only which normally shouldn't fade with age too much. I can easily see him doing a Pirlo if he decides to play at that age.

I think he will leave Madrid this summer.
It is not a question of talent but of finding another project. Here he has won everything.
Premier league with a fat contract

Maybe he's bored like the rest of the Madrid team? They've won it all and just expect to beat teams without actually showing up.

Almost certain he will come to us for a payday. Almost certain he will be a shadow of the player he was.

I don´t know. He seems to treat his career with great professionalism. The problem with United is the coach. He does not like to run or defend.
Lopetegui changed his position during some games and he did not take long to respond "I am not Casemiro".
If he is well surrounded by defensive midfielders it would not be a problem

More than 550 games in his career at 28. Wow. Don't want him. He'll be like Fabregas... finished before he turns 30 !!

He is not primed to play PL football, he hates running. Barcelona should pay whatever it takes to get him though, he is tailor-made for them.
