What makes me laugh is that none of you have any real insight into the personality of Roy Keane, nor Mick McCarthey, yet you are all defending the former to the hilt based on the fact that he's a great player. That strikes me as being a a little on the subjective side.

I've heard it suggested before that Keane is a fairly selfish person who is motivated to strive at great lengths for success for his own personal reasons rather than those of the team. Now this may be right or it may be bollox, but the point is none of us know and I don't think him being a great player is reason enough for everybody to stand up and voice unequivocal support for him.

I'm sad that Roy Keane won't be at the world cup because he's a great player, but without knowing him I don't think I can be sad/upset/angry for him as many on this board appear to be.

And you're weeping as we type are you?

Don't you think it's all a bit melodramatic?

I think it's hilarious the whole thing <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

But you said that because you don't know Keano, you can't be sad/upset/angry for him. I assume you don't know many players at Man United, so that must mean you're never sad/upset/angry for any of the players individually..

In short, yes. Do you find that odd or what?

Mmmh, not really - although that's not the way I and many other of my football mates are. I'm probably more happy for e.g. Solskjaer when he's doing well than e.g. Cole or Yorke.

Well, fair dos, but he's just a footballer. People are too prone to treating them like gods. Hero worship and all that is a bit unhealthy innit?

So, when you go to OT , you're not 'hero-worshipping'?

What is it with you? Why do I have to confirm everything for you? Isn't it clear enough already? Or are you just trying to be anal cos Davo's not around to spur you on to anally retentive heights most of us cannot even conceive of?

Good post that

i don't know about anybody else but i haven't defended anybody on the basis of their personality i am simply feel that KEANE as captain of IRELAND was right to vent his feelings and frustrations about the conditions of the facilities as from what i have seen they are pretty poor and the mentality of the some of the other players/staff - going on piss-ups and paying golf when barely training.
I'm sure KEANE didn't vent these feelings in the most proffesional or respectful way but surely macarthy or the FAI could see that he wan't getting worked up for the sake of it and he was raising some important issues that he felt needed airing as nobody else was saying anything.

<a href="http://www.planetfootball.com/article.asp?id=94018&clid=&cpid=4&Title=Irwin+%2D+Roy+is+right" target="_blank">DINNY </a> agrees with me, he's a great lad - nice personality you know?

;)

well then i find it strange that someone as experienced as roy keane could behave in such a moronic way as to air these feelings publically on the eve of the biggest tournament in the world, something the whole of his country is looking forward to, and the last one he'll ever play in.

either he has serious, genuine medical and psychological problems or he is just a complete prick.

which is it?

Or maybe a unbelieable driven and passionate person who says what he thinks?

You seem to have quite strong feelings about this by the way

Wtf?

Start again then. What was the point of your question about me not hero worshipping? And I'll help you out here, I mentioned in the post before yours that I think hero worshipping is a bit unhealthy. Call me daft but I thought you asked a question which was trying to gauge an opinion which I had already given.

Of course perhaps you were referring to your own post when you rolled your eyes?

I'm not saying KEANEacted rationally but who does when they are pissed off ? He and other players have made siminlar complaints for years and the FAI have done nothing as he says 'enough is enough' .

either he has serious, genuine medical and psychological problems or he is just a complete prick.

Of course. It HAS to be one or the other doesn't it  . Bitter twat

Bloody 'ell, you really are a grumpy old sod..

IMO a fan who goes to cheer on his team at OT, Anfield or wherever is worshipping. Don't you agree?

it's an irish thing.

it's difficult as i dislike keane 'cos he plays for you lot, but i can appreciate what a colossus he is on the pitch. . .more even to the irish team than with you lot.

so for a team's inspirational captain to do what he has done, when he has done it. . .well, it's unforgiveable.

f'chrissakes, the irish were never going to win the world cup anyway, so his bleats about the 'professionalism', which while probably fair enough, could have waited 'til after the tournament. . .

How can you say that when you don't know the full story?

selfish person who is motivated to strive at great lengths for success for his own personal reasons rather than those of the team.

1999 treble winners.
who the feck got us there at there own personnel loss. And still refused a medal, saying he did not deserve it.

Grumpy? You're not clear in what you say, appear to asks unnecessary questions which you then amend somewhat because of the combination of the first two points I mentioned.

Your question is aimed at what exactly? Hoping I'll say yes they are all hero worshipping so that you can then suggest that I think that all fans are a bit unhealthy of mind?

Is that the point, if not what is?

Why not just answer the question Dans instead of questioning his question?

Kin weirdo!

No point in particular

Just trying to discuss in an informal manner whether or not all us football fans are worshipping in some way?

Whereas you just go off in a right rant - you related to Keano by any chance?

Perhaps Keane feels that if he hasn't participated in the final game he doesn't deserve one? Perhaps he'd feel (and it doesn't actually matter here what you or I think) that he'd won a medal by default this way?

You don't really discuss though do you? It's more like a Q&A with you. And you post a lot of bollox anyway so you can forgive me for questioning your motives. As for me going off on a rant, that's laughable. You remind me of JSV actually (that's not flattering btw).

You should chill - think you take your role and things on this site far to seriously <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Somehow I believe Keano will play for the Irish again. They're gonna crash out in the first round, McCarthy will be sacked, Keano will be asked to be player-manager and the likes of Quinn and Staunton will never be picked again and Keano will lead Ireland to glory (semis) in the Euro 2004.

Kinell, I have a role now do I? What might that be then?

What makes you think I'm not chilled? The fact that I question you because I think your attempts to "engage in discussion" aren't all that?

Mostly I sit here and laugh at the likes of you and jsv mate.

1. keane will never play for ireland again unless he grovels with apology to the manager, the fans and the country in general.

2. ireland may well go out in the first round, but mccarthy will not be sacked.

3. i'd be very, very surprised if roy keane ever managed a football team at all, personally. he's the sort to walk away rom football altogether when he finishes playing.

Now, that's good - as I do post here for a laugh, and nothing else - so I'm glad I can help you have a laugh as well

Keane wont have to aplogise to teh people as they are nearly all behind him. Its taken Mick 6 years to get the respect of the country but 1 player above all did more than the rest to get him that respect. We will all still support the team but it wont be the same without Keano. Even the player ratings in some of the papers here are based on how many bollockings he gives, the lower the rating the better they played. Mccarthy has never been very popular with the press or the fans and he certainly hasn't endeared himself to the people over this fiasco. Guarantee'd if we go out in the 1st round the FAI will be looking for a new mamager cos the backlash will be incredible.

no he won't - if the team flops, he now has a perfect patsy thanks to keane. the man who fecked up the morale and the team spirit with his arrogance. . .

Why is the team spirit fecked up?

i think you mean thaks to his decision to send home they best player and only player of world class status.

if they fail to win a single point ie get beaten by everyone including SAUDI ARABIA then he will be sacked.
