Timothy Fosu Mensah

Would he benefit from a game on tour? Just to give him a taste of a big full ground against opposition of men? Maybe as a 20 minute cameo sort of thing?

The experience would be great for the kid and I would love to see him in the US tour, but when is the last time one of our players jumped from the U18s straight in the 1st team, without playing for the reserves? I can't remember anyone doing that in the last 10-15 years.

didn't Ravel debute when he was still with the U18?

Think he was 17 when he debuted against Wolves, fairly sure he was still in the u18s at the time and stepped up to u21s the following season maybe.

Nah, from pre-season 2010 he was pretty much a reserve teamer, though still part of the Youth Cup squad.

A few of next years u18s are under consideration to go on tour with the seniors. They will start back training early to be assessed

Mr Mujac said Tuanzebe has a chance and Gribbin is an outside shot. I'd imagine TFM will be looked at too. Might have a better chance being Dutch too, not sure how much van Gaal was involved in his purchase.

Wow, great news! Hopefully some will make the squad!

Manchester United Reserves coach Warren Joyce feels Tim Fosu-Mensah will develop his game with the Under-21s this season.

The Dutchman, still only 17, has been working with the older group during pre-season and scored in the friendly at Stockport County. Although a central defender with Ajax, he was also used in different positions by Paul McGuinness at Academy level. During the second half at Edgeley Park, he flourished in an attacking midfield position after starting as centre-back in the 3-3 draw with Salford City alongside Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

"He [Fosu-Mensah] is a footballer," Joyce told ManUtd.com. "If you’re looking for footballers, you’ve got to look at what their real strengths are.

"He played at the back for us and, in the first game against Salford, he was arguably at fault with their three goals. He could stay there as he’s played there and in holding midfield for his country, the Netherlands, but you have to look at his strengths and what else he can offer the team.

"We’ve got to hone his strengths as well so he ultimately he can be selected for the first team."

I can see him being the holding midfielder role -- his composure at his age is very impressive. Reads the game extremely well and seems to have a lot of time on the ball.

Joyce usually know what's the best for the player so no worries. At least the philosophy hasn't come yet.

He's never looked at all defensively suspect to me before. Hopefully Joyce has factored in that it was his first game for the U21s at the age of 17, that might have had something to do with it...

Dont think Joyce means that he wont ever play in defence, more that they will play him further forward to help develop his all round game which is probably a good thing considering we have Tuanzebe and Williams coming through as central defenders as well

Perhaps BJ too, from the highlights he looks to have been our least culpable CB in pre-season, though Joyce did call him a LB playing out of position in one of his post-match interviews.

This true? Saw it on the reddit section.
edit: Turns out I'm very late. Happened almost a month back. :D

What position did he play? He looks very advanced in that video.

CB, CDM, now in advance midfield position. Must be one very talented player to be trusted in different position, even though it is not the first team. Still pretty impressive.

Where do we think he will end up? Ball playing Centre Back or Yaya-esque midfielder?

He is a player I have been following since he joined - really hope he makes it. To those who watch the youth teams regularly - do you guys think he is one who could actually break into the first team? (Obviously perhaps not just yet, but in time).
