"I'm very happy to be back, it’s been a very long time in the early stages of my career,"
Fosu-Mensah told MEN Sport about his return from injury.
"It's the first time I’ve been injured, I had shoulder injuries and out for one or two weeks and this was a ligament injury that took me out for eight months. It was mentally hard, I had good people around me. I had people in the time like
Marcos (Rojo) who had the same injury as me before and people outside of the club who have had the same injury before who I have spoken to. Mentally it was tough but I had good people around me to keep me strong."
"I'm happy I used to play there (midfield) for the 21s before," he said. "Most of the time I have been playing centre back or right back but midfield I can play and the coaches they work with me to make me know the position better."
"I’m always comfortable about pushing back into the (first) team but with this injury you have to be cautious and take it step by step," he said. "We are working hard, the coaches, the fitness coaches, the physios, they know what to do and when is the best time for me to play, they know everything about this.
"They are obviously in communication with me, I have to tell them how I feel and what they think and together we come to a decision. We have to take it step by step but I’m happy to be back out on the pitch again."
