For someone hat hasn't kicked a ball in absolute ages, I thought he did well.

I was surprised to see his name in the starting 11, but really pleased for him

He's always spoken well and comes across as a good pro.

He's had injuries and 2 dodgy loan spells.

We still dont know his best positions but he proved tonight he is capable of being a rotational squad option.

People bashing him need to lighten up - he done well and contributed to a very important away win.

I hope he can push on from this. His challenge is to remain fit and take his chance when it comes

He was ok, with a dodgy moment or two, which given his circumstances is to be expected. If hes happy with a squad role would be tempted to keep him for a season and move Dalot on.

I think he did ok but we had very little attacking threat through him and he just concentrated on keeping it simple - a solid 6 IMO but we need Shaw or Williams back for the final matches !

He was thrust in really. When ideally he would be coming on as a sub to get some minutes when the game is won. He did ok in the circumstances. Just need to build on it and get a decent move.

Did as well as we could've expected. Was decently defensively. Every time he got the ball he would just pass to back to Maguire. Hopefully he won't have to play there too much

Let's put some respect on this kids name.

He has barely played LB in his career and he hasnt even played football at this level in a long time.

His stats were decent enough. 87% pass rate.

He actually created two chances which is not bad at all for a LB.

He has no established link ups in the team, like Shaw and Rashford have, which always makes things difficult.

I think he done himself proud.

Imagine being put into an important game like that out of nowhere.

He did well. I even forgot he was still with us (didnt know before yesterday whether he was injured, on loan or what)...

I still dont know what his strongest position is for us. Unless its utility man (which is ok for the squad, but not good for him). Saying that, hes only 22 but I reckon utility man for us is the best he can do (which isnt a bad thing if he has a career like OShea)

Was a solid and no-fuss performance. I liked how he marked some territory on CP players, giving them small nudges here and there.

Hope he can have more of these performances when we need them.

Solid performance, no real chances came down his side, kept a clean sheet no complaints

Made couple of good runs too and created good chance for Lingard.

For a player who is played out of position and first game in 15 months, that was decent game. He also had few poor moments but that would be overly harsh way to judge a player.

In the end he did alright. He started off badly. Was beaten a few times. Didn't provide an attacking outlet either, would just pass the ball back to Maguire every time. To be expected considering how long he's been out. Improved after the break with some decent runs and solid defending. More suited to RB that's for sure but he did a job when the team needed him to so kudos to him for that.

Cant think of any particular moment where he looked great or poor. He was sort of,like, just there.

I agree with those that thought he did ok, nothing flash in attack but nothing really got past him.
We know he can cover the RB position and I would imagine he would be decent cover as a CB as he is as good as Bailly in the air and he is as quick as feck.
He has had a shocker with injuries but if he is past that then I think there is a place for him in the squad given that it looks like we want to punt Smalling, Rojo and Jones.

I was very impressed by the fact there is nothing to be said about him. After being out for so long and be that solid, was impressive.

The boy handled his business. Was surprised by how good his positioning was. Gave Towsend nothing to work with.

Couldn’t watch the game and this thread has been unbelievably unhelpful at giving me a review on what kind of game he had.

He’s ranged from being diabolical to very good.

He seems like a good guy but he's really not good enough to be a United player. 90% of his passes went straight back to the person who passed him the ball... which was usually Maguire. Might as well have been passing to a trampoline.

Ok. All game he was solid defensively, nothing got past him at all, when he did get the ball wide in the first half, in his own half, he probably passed back to Maguire 80% of the time, primarily because there was no one available further forward, Palace were defending quite deep. He did go forward a bit, but not like a Shaw or Williams would. Second half he did venture forward more, and started to work little patterns of play with Bruno, Rashford and Martial, and was up to their box quite a few times, especially when Matic game on, that was probably because Palace players were getting tired. It was noticeable that their press second half was not as good as it was first half. Overall I would give him a 7. I rate him higher than Dalot, whose yet to convince me he's good enough, and I would think will definitely be here next season, primarily as a back four cover player. He has all the physical attributes for a top DM, but not sure how good his awareness and passing ability is, I suppose the only way is to try him in that position pre season. He was unlucky to get booked, was about a tenth as bad as the Romau attack on Greenwood.

Not sure how you can tell he's not good enough after 100 minutes of football, where the team as a whole didn't perform great, and the number of options to pass forward were limited due to Palace sitting quite deep, and pressing hard. He certainly performed well in his defensive duties, but yes, he didn't venture forward a great deal, only towards the end when Palace legs were getting tired. Would certainly prefer TFM to Dalot at the moment.

I would be delighted if he had a career as good as OShea. Was just thinking we need a player in that mould. Nothing flash but always steady and able to fill a hole.

Wasn't he very very good back then? tackle master, couldn't get past him.

Saw a stat saying that, before last night, Rooney played for us more recently than Fosu-Mensah has.

Madness. When you put it like that, you have to say he did well under the circumstances.

I felt like he kept turning backwards to use his right foot which ended up in a lot of back passes

You guys are being way too harsh. It’s his first game back from a rake of injuries. Jesus give him some time. Stop being so impatient. It’s childish.

I've watched him play a lot more than 100 minutes of football. He did perform well in his defensive duties for the most part but that's obviously not enough for a team that wants to dominate matches and have most of the ball. Unfortunately he isn't better than Shaw, and he's not better than Brandon Williams. Despite that, I am glad he did ok last night and happy for the lad that he got his first United appearance in a long time.

Always had hope when it comes to TFM, still do, for whatever reason. Dunno what people expected of him vs CP, he wasnt worst on the pitch and somehow he gets all the critism.

Did very well last night. For being out so long and to come in in a crucial match and put in a solid performance is a credit to him. Hope he gets a chance next season to properly establish himself as a part of the squad.

Considering it was his first game in over a year & his first United game in over 3, and he was playing out of position, he wasn’t that bad. Kept it simple.

Remember when people said he could be a midfielder for us...

I think he is either a back up RB or RCB, nothing more. His passing and positioning isn't good enough for a DM, but he has pace. I think RCB in a 3 man defense would suit him the best.

I thought he was solid last night. Good defensively and showed aggression and effort to win the ball back. Kept possession nice and tidy.

Like a few have already said we need more than that long term from our full backs but at Right Back I think he could provide more in an attacking sense with overlaps and crossing. He looks like playing from the left he will strictly be a ‘defensive full back’ which in certain games isn’t the end of the world.

Against Chelsea he should play on the right and give rest to AWB. Presuming that Shaw or Williams will be good to play

this could be a good idea to keep things fresh but he'd be up against Pulisic which is a different test altogether. I thought he was fine last night. He's definitely not a left back but if he can stay fit and cover a few positions then I dont see whats wrong with keeping him around. Most likely he's in the shop window at this stage though. You'd imagine he would want to go and play first team somewhere for a few years than be a squaddie here for a while and leave in the future. I have this feeling somewhere like Celtic would be a great move for him to get lots of games and keep developing.

Same. I think that wouldnt be the worst thing for TFM either. Weve had that in squads before that have won championships. Jack of all trades, but not a specialist in one I guess.

I think he was very competent yesterday. I was initially thinking he would be a good DM but I honestly have no idea about his passing, just because we havent seen much of it. I think hes best suited being outwide as full back cover, or even as part of a three at the back.

My MOTM! Looked super nervous in the first 5-10 minutes, which is a real shame because he looked certain to feature a lot more for United and I never expected him to be introduced into the squad as a senior like this.
Hé didn’t have a bad game but he was far from MOTM.

He's not played s prem game for a long time, so realistically all we can judge him on his how he performs now. At Fulham he looked as if he wasn't enjoying playing, was left out occasionally, and didn't look great. I agree he's not better than Shaw or Williams, but I would rather Ole gave him a pre season and a few games to see if he can really compete at Prem level, whether he will get the opportunity is another matter. He's probably one of the best players, physically, we have in the squad, but he needs to align that with quick thinking, good passing, and the ability to read the play, if he can do all that, then we may have a very good player on our hands.

You could be right. Physically, he has all the attributes to be a top DM, but passing, spotting danger before it happens, and the ability to fill in in a defensive position if a defender is caught out of position is what is needed. Perhaps a match pre season could determine whether he could fulfill that role or not.
