Lingard, Mata and Rojo have contracts ending next year so at least we know for certain we won't have to deal with them much longer. Jones though, I don't think I'll ever get over us re-signing him last year until 2023 despite everything we know about him.

Phil jones has a 3 year contract left, wages 11.7m.
Rojo has 1 year left, 4.16m wages
Smalling has 2 years left, 13.25m wages
Lingard Has 1 year, 4.68m
Pereira has 3 years, 4.68m
Romero(Not deadwood but likely to leave) has 1 year, 3.64M
Letting all these players go for nominal fees saves 42 million quid in wages, as well as whatever fees we get.
Its not advertised but the stupid long term contracts given to Jones and Rojo were obviously intended to protect asset value. Wouldnt be surprised if teams have bid for them and been quoted wildly unrealistic figures.

The issue is noone is willing to pay them what we pay them, so why would they move.
I say loan out Pereira (could have good money for him after his spell in la liga), as well as Jones and Rojo.

Yeah still think Spurs could make a move for Lingard before the window shuts, in regards to Smalling I wouldn't be averse to him going to Inter if it meant we could get either some DM cover (Brozovic) or LW cover (Perisic). Yes we would still need to sign Sancho/Sarr on RW but either of those Inter players would at least give us options.
I'm not having Pereira is on a contract worth 90,000 a week, no chance.

To play more than reserve football. Though in the case of Rojo and Jones they spend most of the time on an injury table so no one likely to offer more than a pay as you play. Laughable we ever extended the contract of either, Rojo should have been released in 2018
Covid has made things worse for us- wages have gone down.a bit so it s even more difficult for our deadwood to.find a club willing to pay what they re asking for

I wouldnt be surprised if we renew Lingard and Mata again. I can see Rojo leaving as a free agent but I think our board is as stupid as to think that Mata can give an extra year and that Lingard has some value so we shouldn't lose him.

Woodward seems to be in total denial about how shite our second string players are. Nobody is paying more than £10m for Lingard. Nobody is paying actual money for the likes of Jones and Rojo. The club is being run into the ground by delusional feckwits.

If you read our accounts then they count the players as almost 1billion Pounds worth of intangible assets Against a club value of 4.2 billion. They probably assign about 150 million quid of value to the deadwood so no interest in taking that off the club value i would have believed
Jones is only on £75k a week, that’s within the ballpark of what the likes of West Ham and Newcastle pay. People talking as if he’s on £180k a week.

You realise £75k a week is more than what the likes of Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold are on, right? We're paying these players more than what some of the best defenders in the country get. Then people wonder why we can't shift them.

Its depressing as feck and really shows that the higher ups are simply bean counters with zero knowledge about the sport, zero love for the club and zero ambition outside maintaining a steady revenue stream. Worst part is, its incredibly short sighted even from a financial standpoint
First of all, all these benchwarmers are just sitting on their arse and collecting premium wages, they are not marketable in the slightest and they contribute nada on the pitch. So while Woody and co are waiting for some imaginary buyer that is suddenly going to show up and hand them a big bag of money, they refuse to sell. Then you have the negative effect of worse results on the pitch. In this competitive climate you are not going to challenge for anything if half the squad are not up to standard
likes of Smalling if last summer we got offered 15m for him we would have bitten there hands off, accept the deal and let him go, same with James never going to make it here if we can get our money back do it and move on his confidence looks destroyed, Romero the same been an excellent servant when called upon but hes done his time here let him go for 7/8m and be done with it. Lingard really lacks the quality we want here so again if can get a fee of over 15m let him leave, Periera and TFM I would let go as well even if get 5m for each of them, take off there wages as well.

Let Romero leave on a free if a club comes in for him. He’s been a solid pro since arriving on a free. We don’t need him unfortunately.

Seems we're the only big club with constant issues offloading deadwood probably due to being the only one that offers massive wages to average players consistently

This is what happens when almost all of our first teamers are on 6 figure or high 5 figure salaries. Even if the lower clubs want them, they can’t afford them.
I'm so sick of this from Woodward. You can't protect the value of assets that aren't liquid (in this case unsaleable). The club needs to recognize this and instead of protecting non-existent value learn how to cut their losses by letting these kinds of players leave on a free.
We could be more creative in getting these guys off our books - subsidised wages, only have to buy if play x number of games etc - they can be offloaded if we are creative
Why dont we loan these players out and let them atleast establish themselves and make it easier to sell later on(like Sanchez), I mean better than them staying here and not playing which is a lose lose.

James and Pereira would struggle to find Premier League clubs if they left and Jones and Rojo will only leave the club on free transfers - nobody is paying money for them. Lingard might fetch £15m from Newcastle or similar, but it's an appalling bunch of players.
The decision to hand Jones a new deal last year was utterly ridiculous.
Extending Jones was the worst offense in my eyes. We never planned on playing him and extended out of a desire to make sure he didn't leave for free (classic businessman's thinking) but failed to realize that by putting him on high wages, we were pricing him out of a move to the clubs that would actually take him. Moreso than the troubles with getting players in, it's the repeated overpaying of squad players that has been the worst development under Woodward's reign.
Barcelona paid off some players to leave. Juve did the same with Hiuguain.

That's not how it works. Player registrations had a value of £339m on the 2019 accounts which is mainly those we've paid significant fees for.
A lot of us have been making this point for a while. Our squad players make more than other club's squad players despite us being the more attractive club. And people on this forum still make the point that we shouldn't care what our squad players earn, when it's a huge problem to offload them. It clearly matters.
Just give Jones 30% of his contract and let him leave. He played less than 10 games last year. We really do not need him.

Giving Matic a new deal was terrible to. We wouldn’t have signed a replacement anyway in the first month of the window cause we are shit at transfers. If we waited we could have got Thiago for 20m. Him and VDB for around 60m is terrific business and our midfield is sorted for the next few years. We haven’t addressed one need this window. RW? Still open. CB? Still open. DM? Still open. LB?
