This has to happen, and I firmly believe United will try to bring in what they need before this weekend's deadline.
Escude will eventually join, but it wouldn't be a proper United transfar saga without a few 'on off' worries.
Fergie will assess Barthez over the next day or two - but if a keeper 'can't dive' as Fergie says then a loan deal will be needed as we can't rely on just Carroll. Expect movements in that area too.
As for a striker, Fergie has said he likes to work with four, and United (PLC included) know they are short in that area. I wouldn't be surprised if something develops in that area assuming United reach the Champions League group stages tonight. Not sure if it's a big money move, but there would be little point in United bringing in quantity rather than quality. The reason for bringing in new players is to try to improve the team. Put it this way, I'll be very disappointed if United don't bring in a new forward before Saturday
