I would rather get Ndidi, whos younger and PL proven. The only upside is that Leicester are hard negotiators and would probably hold out for around 60M.

Theres also Zakaria from Mongendladbach who I think we could get for around 40M, he's 22-23 and has been playing to a great level in the bundesliga, of course with the upside that he's not PL proven.

I have some doubt over Atletico's players, I think Simeone has them playing better than they are, all the player they have sold flopped in other teams. Arda Turan, Filipe Luis, Godin not a total flop at inter but he's hardly considered one of the top CBs anymore, Griezmann is struggling at Barca, Lucas Hernandez struggling at Bayern, Rodri at City, etc the only one I can think of is Diego Costa who had a great spell at chelsea.

You are missing the point. As I said again Im not saying we will. But this is the window to capitalise and close the gap

Chelsea btw spent Hazard money on Pulisic and Ziyech.

That's my opinion you don't have to agree. There was a spell McTominay was brilliant and our best midfielder (when Pogba was injured), people were gutted when he got injured. But crucial to me rating his performances above Fred is the fact that he has also contributed with couple of goals, some of them great ones like against Arsenal and City.

Then you have Fred who tries like 3000 shots this season, and I fail to remember if 10 of them hit the target actually. His defensive game is nothing special and I actually fail to see at what does he excel.

You obviously overrating Mctominay. Tell me what Mctominay is an expert in on the ball if he isn't shooting from distance

Not sure about Ndidi, he’s really good but we don’t seem to utilise that sort of DM. Zakaria would be my pick, he seems to fit that role like a glove.

My point is Garner (CDM in academy) shouldn't has to take McTominay's place to experince first team football. He can plays CAM and still got the potential

McTominay has been great for us before his injury, and scoring 3 goals in EPL this season. He deserves more recognition in the squad than just "a player who is coming from the academy".

Maybe I am, but so are many on here regarding Fred. I appreciate him as he works his socks off every time he plays but I don't get what he brings half of the time you watch him play. Not stable enough to be a CDM and is easily bypassed therefor leading to us lacking any kind of control in the middle of the park and the defense exposed. In addition he is very ordinary with the ball.

I can say the same things about McT, but he is younger and actually can contribute with a goal here and there. My original point is that I would keep McT as a squad option while getting rid of Fred if we bring Partey and we are obviously keeping Matic. Ultimately a better young midfielder would replace Scott.

McTominay has never been better than Fred in any area in anything except maybe playing cards.

If we are talking about bringing Partey in and replacing one of Mctominay or Fred I'd pick Fred. Fred is obviously the better play than Mctominay and he isn't very ordinary on the ball - that's Mctominay. The reason why I'd sell Fred for Partey is simply because Partey offers the same thing Fred offers x2 so there isn't any need for Fred. Mctominay is also young so could develop but Fred is absolutely the better player

Fred cost £55 million he should be head and shoulders ahead of McTom and Matic. He has had a few good games admittedly, but he has been average at best overall since he came here.

I never put McTominay as a CDM... so yes I would think Garner could take his spot if he progresses

He’s been excellent whenever I’ve seen him. To see him anchoring Pogba and Fernandes would make me horny

Ndidi I think would fit well, focusing purely on defence while Pogba and Bruno focus on the offensive.

I agree Zakaria is exciting, my only doubt is if he can replicate his performances in here.

Partey can play CDM much better than both of them, and as you say offers twice what Fred does. That means if we are keeping McT as a back B2B (replacement for Pogba) I do think not only because he is younger and could develop further, but also already a more useful player than Fred. Fred is a much tidier passer and probably his stats can back that up, but McT offer a better goal threat from midfield and can drive the ball nicely. As someone already said maybe I am overrating Scotty but I like what he brings to the table much more than what Fred brings.

Regarding Fred I've actually warmed to him this season, and love his commitment and desire coming from a player who is not homegrown. Of course all this debate is for nothing since we are not even interested in Partey it seems.
 
Just had another game where he has outclassed Saul in the midfield and been their best player.

Think it'd be tragic letting him come to league but for another rival when he'd be such a great buy for us for the next 5 years

I don't think a DM is priority especially since the extension of Matic's contract. We are most likely going to get a RW and possibly a No. 8 could can deputize for Bruno and Pogba.
 
Midfield is one of the areas of the game where you need a lot of options, especially when you have horrendous luck like we do. Even if we sign a new midfielder, which I hope we do since there’s no guarantee Matic’s good form will continue, and considering we play a 3 man midfield, having at least 6 midfielders in the squad is essential.
 
Both Fred and McTominay's passing is too sloppy to play as the deepest midfielder, and their touch too. Is Partey better in them aspects? I haven't seen much of him tbh, but the little I have seen he was very athletic and kept things tidy.

Having watched them play that is nothing remarkable. Watch how they always look to Partey to create something when the opponents are hemmed or for him to find runners from deep. I doubt he will play in England though he is more likely to stay there or go to Barcelona.

Partey, if his flirting with Arsenal (as in not publicly refusing a move), is not a contract negotiation strategy, then we should be all over him. Among the best all-round midfielders in the world, and the best (Thiago maybe?) potentially available this summer. Hopefully us not being linked by every news outlets in the world is due to Woody/Arnold working behind the scenes. But this is not likely given the public knowlegde over the last two windows regarding our transferdealing.

Hope when he does decide to leave it's for a much better club than Arsenal as I would've hated to see him be a big fish in a small pond, hopefully it's for a Manc club on the red side...

Could it be due to Arsenal playing zero European football next season. I’d imagine that affects their transfer kitty in a big way.
 
We have to get either him or Ruben Neves. I wouldnt mind sellling Fred to fund either of the transfer.

Think this could happen next summer if he still hasn't moved but everything reported seems to suggest Ole isn't looking at the DM/DLP position at the moment

He is good defensively, dynamic and quick which will help centrally around Maguire and Pogba. I guess Ndidi would offer similar, but Partey would slot right in our side as he has quick feet playing out from the back and quick in transition. He is also very aggressive and can win the ball back. He is just a really good fit the way I see it and I think he would be even better suited to our tactics than Atletico Madrid defensive tactics honestly.

I will be happy even if we only sign Sancho and him in this transfer window. But there hasn't been any reports showcasing our interest for him which is sad actually.
