Thomas Frank | Brentford Manager

He was dealt a bad hand last season. Brentford have never been in danger of going down and that's a great achievement.

Frank is a very good manager. If Spurs sack Ange they should be all over him.

16th is not a great achievement anyway you look at it, especially when the teams below him were Luton, Sheffield United and Burnley.

Plenty of teams have a bad hand and have to make do.

I was also pointing out that the quote said 'consistency'. Finishing 16th is not consistency.

I've previously called him negative but he's got Brentford attacking really well this season. Establishing himself as a top coach.

Spurs bound maybe?
I believe most goals scored at their home this season? (tbf i think that's all teams - not sure if they're top home scorers). But yeah, he's doing a fantastic job there.

He's a good manager but like Brighton they have the right set up and I think their next manager will probably look good as well.

Could Frank change the fortunes of a team like Everton or United? I'm not so sure.

Mate he's managing Brentford. They weren't even expected to survive in the first season and he's turned them into a Premier League mainstay. They also play good football and he constantly improves players and gets the best out of what he has.

That’s a good point. The hardest thing to do at any club seems to be getting in someone who can identify and sign the best young talent. Once that’s sorted the rest tends to all fall into place. Weren’t Brentford way ahead of the curve at using data to identify undervalued players?

Injuries crippled us last season to be fair - even this season we basically have no fullbacks with Rico Henry and Aaron Hickey both out long term.

But anyway Spuds can do one - leave Thomas alone!

Bloom (brighton owner) and Matthew Benham (Bees owner) were once in business together but had a falling out. They both made money through stats based betting and have their own sources for data. Our models are very similar, Brighton are just a bit further down the road in their journey.

We have exclusive access to the data from Benham's company and use it to identify players who are undervalued then we scout them as you would normally scout a player and do all the usual checks on personality and fit for the team etc.

Curious, would Nathan Collins have been signed based on that model? You spent a club record £23m on him from Wolves which seemed way over the odds to me, seeing as Wolves had paid £20m for him a year previously but he had lost his place in the Wolves team to Craig Dawson. Plus he always looks like he has a mistake in him.

However, I've seen a few highlights of him lately and he's looked very good, going forward at least, how is his transfer viewed by Brentford fans?

I wouldn’t say so. Collins was well known before they got them but he is coming good now it seems.

If I were the new owners of Everton I'd try everything I could go get him. Worth a try. I think he's great.

Brighton and Brentford are operated in a similar way. My understanding is that the owner of Brighton used to work with the owner of Brentford. It all turned abit sour and they went their separate ways. Both of them have a hand in betting and data management which they have then leveraged at the clubs they own. The data at Brighton and Brentford has been way ahead of the curve!

The one and only ITK knowledge I have ever had about football transfers is that United made a bid for him when he was still at Stoke.

0-1-6 away from home this season. Nearly halfway through their away games for the season and they only have one point.

Anyone suggesting he would get away with a poor away record at a big club (think Emery at Arsenal) is naive.

He has been very good this year - the potential was always there he just needed to be coached into playing how we want him to. The mistakes seem to be geting fewer and farther between now.

Liverpool, City, United, Spurs and Villa all in that list so far not exactly an easy set of fixtures. Everton we got a point after a nonsense red card in the first half for Norgaard and Foolham we were 1-0 up into injury time (admittedly we played rubbish that way). I expect the away form will start to look a bit less anomalous as the season goes on.

Those seven away games were Liverpool, City, Spurs, United, Fulham, Everton and Villa plus they have Chelsea and Brighton next!

How many points would you expect them to pick up?
