Well, since he's still using Smalling and Jones as first team players ahead of the defenders he bought himself I'd say SAF's deadwoods are serving him well. Our player of the year for the past two years is also a SAF deadwood too. And what have Darmian and Blind got to do with anything, he doesn't even play them. Talking about mediocre players you've not include Fellaini who Jose is begging to stay, or Young who Jose says will play 50 games next season. Maybe thats our boards fault too. Two seasons after buying 8 players and spending $300 million the best players in the club are still SAF 'deadwoods'.
Did you just call DDG deadwood? Wow. You're considering Bailly a failed signing? He's often looked like our best CB, but I suppose it's Jose's fault he's been injured and unfit for large spells this season, yeah?
What does Darmian and Blind have to do with anything? Everything!
The squad Jose inherited was a broken mess, it staggered to 5th place based on strangling games and winning with 1-2 shots on target.
It had Rooney, Schneiderlain and Fellaini as their central midfielders. Blind and Darmian as their fullbacks, it was the worst squad I've ever seen in my lifetime.
Now how do you clearout 15-20 players that are NOT good enough to win you a league title? In 2 summers? Do you feck! You do it over 4-5 years, as you only have 100-150mil to spend each year and you need continuity.
If Jose had cleared out 20 players last summer he would have had an empty squad, because he can't go out and spend 600mil-700mill required to overhaul the squad in 1 window. Look at City, they've invested around 700-800million on their current squad over a 4 year period, yet people expect United to overtake Man City, instantly when spending 300million, it's simple math my friend. This squad is still midway through a re-build, City isn't. Some fans don't have the ability to be realists and see that through no fault of Mourinho, United have slipped squad-wise well behind City due to poor investment. I mention only City, because they're the only team better than us, thanks to Mourinho's rebuild. Previous to Mourinho, we couldn't even get in the top 4. We couldn't catch Arsenal. Now we're the 2nd best team in England whilst still mid-way through our re-build. Spot the upward trajectory.
Banding around "he's spent $300m he should be winning titles" is ridiculous when you see the mediocre squad he's overhauling and the fact it's less than half of what City spent to construct their title winning squad.
So what does Blind and Darmian have to do with it? They have to stay in the squad until we can adequately replace them! Why did he beg Fellaini to stay? Because our midfield was awful when Mourinho joined United.
He got rid of:
Schewinsteiger
Schneiderlain
Rooney
Carrick (Retired)
And he's introduced
Pogba
McTomminay
Matic
Fred
Mourinho doesn't want to play Fellaini for 50 games in a deep midfield role. He wants him as an alternative option from the bench every now and then, until he can adequately replace him!
So if he is to flog Fellaini, he needs to buy another CM or end up a midfielder light for the season, yet fans like you are criticising him for keeping him - it baffles me! Surely it's more important to invest in a RW or in the Wingbacks than to buy a replacement for Fellaini, our back-up CM? It's about priorities, he can't replace every rubbish player in 1 swoop you know.
Do you expect Mourinho to buy 15 players in 1 window, and sell 15 in 1 window? Do you feck! It's a slow process and takes years. I'm sure this entire blueprint has been laid out to the board and the people that matter, he doesn't need to come out to fans like you and explain himself. This is one of the most decorated managers in the history of the game we're talking about here.
That's an absolute failure on his part. In the meantime he's made world class signings like Mkhi whose fecked off, Lindelof who he doesn't trust, Sanchez and Pogba who all look a shadow of themselves. Following your ridiculous logic the Picanto owner has been given the funds to get a Lamborghini to race the Ferrari which he does then is so confused about operating the Lambo so just gives up and uses the Picanto instead.
You say Mkhi fecked off - he has been cleverly replaced by one of the best attackers the PL currently has. Sanchez WILL come good at United. His form was poor well before he came here, he WILL play his way out of it because he's truly world class. So I don't see Mkhi as a failed signing, because he aided the arrival of Sanchez.
Lindelof is young, and has time to adapt and improve, very harsh to judge him after just one season.
Pogba is in his early to mid 20's, he is a player with genuine star quality and is only going to get better, but of course, right him off to help your argument against Mourinho. Lets re-visit in 2 more years and see where Pogba is.
You also Dismiss the fact he's signed and developed Lukaku, his game is twice what it was for Everton. At Everton he was a poacher, that was it. He was branded lazy by his own supporters, yet for United, he's an all round attacker, hard working, does so much off the ball that you probably don't even see. That is development, but you just coast past that to make Mourinho out to be a bad manager. Ignore the signing of Matic, a winner, experienced and adds bucket loads of reassurance to our was sh!te midfield.
How about you allow this guy the time to complete his re-build and see where we are in 2 years. He's already dramatically improved our league fortunes, over 80 points, from 6th to 2nd, back to back CL qualifications, 3 cup finals in 2 seasons. It's there in black and white. Ignore it with your agenda.
