Thierry Henry Statue

Come at me bro

 Those statues are ridiculous.
It's great shame, there are no end of decent craftspeople out there who could have done a better job let alone the artists who could have done something special. I'd guess this is the same talentless wanker who did Bobby Moore at Wembley.

If it was, I'm pretty sure the guy who did Moore was also responsible for the "Holy Trinity" statue at Old Trafford as well as others (his depiction of George Best was criticized).

Phillip Jackson, that's the one. His wiki has a list of some of his works

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Belgravia, London
Falklands War Sculpture, Portsmouth
Liberation Sculpture, Jersey, Channel Islands
Sir Matt Busby, Old Trafford, Manchester
Empress Elisabeth of Austria, Geneva, Switzerland
St Richard, Chichester Cathedral
Constantine the Great, York Minster
King George VI, Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth
The Gurkha Monument, Horseguards Parade
1966 World Cup Sculpture, London
Queen Elizabeth II, Windsor Great Park
Bobby Moore, Sir Alf Ramsey at the new Wembley Stadium
George Best, Sir Bobby Charlton, Denis Law, Old Trafford, Manchester

That video sends shivers down my spine. What a player, no better childhood hero to have. Still put the goal v Spurs where he flicks it across the keeper as my favourite though, just pure impudence at a moment of great pressure.

Does a player who spent 8 years at a club, left them and is still playing and Who only won 2 leagues and a couple of cups deserve a statue?

I think Henry was amazing like everyone else. But this would be like us putting a statue of Ronaldo outside OT.

Ronaldo isn't our highest ever goal scorer. By quite a margin too. Henry, if he played for us and scored the same amount of goals, would've been our 3rd highest scorer, only behind Law & Charlton. Ronaldo's not even in our top 10. Plus 8 years is quite a long time. It's more than Cantona spent with us for a start.

The problem with football statues is that football people tend to be traditionalists. Imagine the fecking hoopla if Bobby Moore's statue had been anything but what it was. The tabloids would've branded it a disgrace for a start. I at least like the idea they've tried to give Adams & Henry insterting poses associated with them. It's just a shame they're shit...and putting the 02 logo on Henry's is just tacky.

Depends if you're more of the belief that statues and dedications should be kept for players from older generations, which is fair enough in my view. Henry deserves it as much as anyone, he made a huge contribution to Arsenal's history, but as you say it's a bit weird because he's still playing and it was only 4-5 years ago he was at the club. You normally see statues for players who have been gone at least 20 years.

A massive prick?

You've lost me. What is this?

If it was at Highbury, oddly, I would've agreed that it's a bit too soon, but the Emirates is a new stadium, and they're doing as much as they can to give it a bit of history & connectivity. He's already on the mural on the front of the stadium anyway, along with Adams, Bastin & Brady. I actually think the way Arsenal have gone about making the Emirates as classy and club centric as possibly has been broadly a success. It's just a bit of a laugh it's called the sodding Emirates.

Don't know anything about Jackson...other than a Google search, but his other work's much better. Still, as an artist..he shouldn't bend over backwards for clients.

I understand the Chapman one but the others:confused:. If Adams then take the whole famous back 4. If Henry, well I really don´t know. He was a brilliant player but as someone said it´d be like Ronaldo outside OT.

I still don't know what it is.

Adams was the captain of that back 4, and also a captain who won the league in 3 different decades. I think he's a very good choice to link the old Arsenal with the new, and the pre-PL era with the post. He also spent his whole career at Arsenal, whilst the others didn't....and Ronaldo wasn't our all time leading scorer.

But knowing Adams and Henry are statues and Giggsy,Scholes aso aso aren´t is kind of putting into perspective the difference between the clubs so I´m happy. If I could choose the next statue outside OT after SAF it´d be the 58 team though

The Busby one is good, the United trinity is as piss poor as the Moore and the Arsenal ones.

They are a bit cack compared to Sir Matt's.

Bobby's just about OK, but Best looks like Bruce Lee

When I think of Henry, the first thing I see in my head is him opening his body up before slotting a side foot in the far corner. I've never seen a player score the same goal so many times. He was brilliant at it to be fair. An interpretive statue should have to consider that for me...

So with that in mind...I'd say more something like this

We should build a statue of Mockney to put on the entrance of the general forum

I'm guessing it would look something like this

The Brancusi has it ...the golden trajectory from right to left starting outside the post curving in... keeper helpless. Not some lumpen attempt at capturing the wundergoal v Spurs with a bloke who looks nothing like Tel reluctantly kneeling at mass.

You should change your username to Cockney

I can't be the only one to thing it's really fecking stupid to have old shirt sponsors on these statues??
