Thiago Silva

Bizarre. As amazing as this transfer story is, just shows how money rules the game. One of the top centre halves in world football dropping to what is, quite frankly, a poor league. Shame.

We won back the league from big spending Chelsea by just bringing Carrick back for just 16m. And we've been on top since pretty much. 3 CL finals winning it once. We've done all right.

Very unusual move for a player at his age to make. Integral part of the Serie A champions moving to a side who have not won the French league for nearly 20 years.

10 million Euro a year to join a team that is willing to spend to win stuff. Milan is the opposite of PSG, selling off a star player that wanted a improved contract in order to fund new signings. Reports in Italy say this deal isn't done yet because of fans protesting and the last thing Berlusconi need is more angry Milan fans but I can't imagine Berlusconi pulling out now.

Never ever thought he'd be sold, feel for the Milan fans. No matter what the price you surely have to keep your very best players who have talked about retiring at the club. They may have serious financial difficulties but must have been able to get through selling lesser pieces. Thiago Silva seems irreplaceable there.

Yeah, looking like Berlusconi has had a change of heart with pressure from fans. Or he's trying to make it look as if the player is pushing for the move.

Latest is that Berlusconi backed down because of all protests from fans and players.

Milan 'resist PSG-Thiago Silva offer!'
By Football Italia staff

Milan President Silvio Berlusconi “intends to resist the PSG offers for Thiago Silva,” revealed Adriano Galliani.

The Vice-President had been in Paris for the last two days conducting extensive negotiations with their director Leonardo.

Galliani flew back to Italy this evening and had talks with President Berlusconi, which seem to have changed the situation around this €47m deal.

“Berlusconi intends to resist the PSG offers for Thiago Silva,” Galliani told Sky Sport Italia late on Wednesday night.

The statement comes after players such as Antonio Cassano, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Stephan El Shaarawy publicly urged the club to keep hold of the Brazilian defender.

Even Milan Channel, the official Rossoneri television station, ran items begging Berlusconi not to sell Thiago Silva.

What a load of bollocks, so this was all just a PR move allowing Berlusconi to be the hero.

Is he even that good? 40m is a huge amount for any defender.

Rumours that the deal to PSG is on again. Apparently a photo Thiago Silva promoting the team's merchandise disappeared from the Milan's online Store website and PSG president was spotted in Milan. No sign of Baines though...

AC Milan's Brazilian defender Thiago Silva has signed a new five-year contract which runs through until June 2017.

Fit and in form he's the best defender in the world for me.

I watched the game with my Grandad and we both repeatedly said "that lad is fecking class!" He really is a cracking defender, looks to be a great captain too. After Barca went 2-1 up he was there motivating Lucas and getting the team up for one last push.

Definitely up there. Milan really shouldn't have sold him even for the ludicrous money they got, he's irreplaceable at the moment. Vidic is getting old and Kompany is in a relatively poor season, and there aren't that many other world class centre backs right now.

My enduring memory of him is when we crushed Milan with a few headed goals and he had no answers. However hes clearly a great CB

Did he play in centre mid in both legs or was that some other game? He's improved since then but that must've been one of his rare off games even back then. Silly decision to play him there at any point really when he's so good at centre half.

He was flawless last season but hasn't hit close to the same heights this year, not even close. A fit Vidic is as good as Silva.

Hmmm I still think Vidic and Rio have lost a bit as father time catches up, with Kompany I was including him on the basis of being fit and in-form.

Yeah agree with Rio but I still have hopes of Vidic getting consistently fit and back to his best, he's only 31.

Still a great player and looks to be developing into a real leader at PSG. I still think its a shame he's playing league football in France, he should be playing at the very top with the talent he has.

He's a top-class defender who makes his countless timely interceptions look so deceptively easy. His brilliant ball distribution from the back is another endearing attribute. Furthermore, he possesses strong leadership qualities which are plainly evident. Overall, Thiago Silva is the complete package when it comes to ball-playing, gifted defenders who also serve key roles in their respective teams as great motivators. He had an excellent performance against Barca in the first leg. Nonetheless, I doubt PSG will be strong enough as a team to qualify to the next round of the Champions League, even with an equally impressive outing from T. Silva at the Camp Nou.

What could've been, shame Barcelona weren't able to close a deal on the defender but PSG came in with an enormous offer that the club couldn't compete with. Would've been perfect for the defense. The search continues but it'll be hard to find a player of his quality

Stunning performance .. on paper he has no real weaknesses.
