Thiago Alcantara | Signed for Bayern Munich

I'm operating on an iPhone only this weekend, so I'm a bit out of the Thiago loop. What are the Bayern fan forums saying about Thiago and the supposed need to bring in yet another midfielder?

Genius...or madness?

From the forums I have read, the general consensus has been that they don't really have any areas to strengthen as such. With Lewandowski inevitable next season they just see it as a luxury signing, who wouldn't want a massively talented young player joining their team?

Some are concerned in a " if it won't broke" sort of way and others are concerned that Bayern could lose its "German" identity a little with a little Spaniard coming into the fold alongside their other big Spaniard.

I'm willing to plenty are pleased, though. People don't tend to worry about overloading a position when it's their own club, even in such an extreme case as adding Thiago to arguably the best midfield in the world, and one into which he doesn't really fit. Rumours of us signing Falcao or Lewandowski might be met with doubts about fitting all our strikers in, but if we were to actually sign one of them, I don't think you'd hear many people complaining.

EDIT: That said, maybe in conjunction with Pep as their new boss, there might be worries that they are about to be Barcelona-ized.

Apparently this is about to be announced anytime. Thiago to Bayern. :(

United were willing to pay clause 4 Thiago. But Pep believed in Thiago. Moyes not so much (will his football work in PL? Moyes wasnt sure)

It looks like bullshit... or, Moyes agreed to pay the fee, but not to allow the release clause based on the number of games which to some journo means that he didn't believe enough on him.

Both options very wrong to me, so I choose to believe that he simply chose Pep.

I was never that enthused with this transfer. I'm not sure if he would be that good in the PL. I just think we desperately need a midfielder or two as that is clearly our weak spot.

If Thiago ultimately chooses Bayern, I think he will have made the only decision he was ever going to make.

It's officially done.

Bayern Munich pay 25M euros for Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara. A friendly game, to be played in the next 4 years, is included.

It's on Bayern's official twitter.

What's German for 'close shutters'?

Well, it was sort of fun, whilst it lasted. Lets see if I can get myself banned from this thread for no good reason before its locked...

Well we haven't been overly enthusiastic about the persistent Garay rumours because we don't need strengthening at CB and were quite concerned that it'll have a knock on effect with Smalling and Jones and Jones will end up getting played mostly in CM etc etc. It's the same for them from what I've seen. They don't feel they need an addition there and think it might mess up the harmony of the current team. Some obviously wont mind, but from most of what I saw they didn't see the sense in it.

We're so shit at closing out big deals

You have to laugh, otherwise you'd cry.

Oh well, man Barca have properly been done by Bayern these last few months, destroyed in the CL, had their most successful manager leave for them sort off, and now had one of their most promising young players leave on the cheap. Still gonna be interesting to see how they line up next season, still not sure when he fits with the players they have but Bayern are really making sure they have a squad that is gonna be strong for a while.

Bayern explain that they pay 20M of Thiago's 25M transfer fee. The rest comes from the friendly game and from Thiago accepting lower salary.

We could've paid him a better salary and paid Barca more without needing a friendly. Either Moyes was never really keen on Thiago or the Guardiola factor outweighed everything we could offer.

Do the circumstances not suggest to you lot that it's not so much our ability to 'close deals' as is is his wish to go to Bayern and play for Pep? The delays would certainly suggest he was in no rush to sign for us.
