Great player. He’d walk into our team as a #6 with Pogba and Bruno.

I actually think he’ll not be as outstanding at Liverpool if he goes there. Doesn’t have the physicality to play in their midfield 3.

It’s actually very easy to see why we are not interested. He will command huge wages, is in the end of his career and plays in a position who is not a priority to strengthen.
We have just shifted a massive wage in Sanchez and will be looking to get rid of some additional players likely on decent wages so I don’t see that as an issue. He’s 29 got 5 years at the top level with his style of play. We are desperate for another midfield option. In Thiago you have a player who can cover Pogba whilst also giving us something different in that deeper role. We really struggle to retain possession under pressure and Thiago is one of the most press resistant players around, would fit us like a glove.

Would be a great player for us, when fit. He’s knees are fecked though.

Yeah no doubt he is still a top player and showed it last night but pretty certain Liverpool will find a deal with Bayern shortly after campaign.

I don’t disagree mate. Rate Thiago highly myself. But there are obvious reasons why the club ain’t interested at this point and I made those.

Ahh fair enough, for what it’s worth we don’t seem interested at all so perhaps that’s right. I think this is probably a hangover from the Sanchez deal.

We only need him if we sell Pogba. Would Thiago really be up for tracking runners into the box, making headed clearances and winning the ball back in midfield? He’s not defensive enough for that third midfield spot.

Will Pogba be able to play 60 games next season? When he needs a rest wouldn't it be nice to be able to rotate with this rather than Andreas:

Yes, but a) players like him are not going to come to us knowing they are back ups and probably won’t start if everyone is fit, and b) we finished 33 points behind Liverpool (closer to Watford and Bournemouth than the champions) - we should not be thinking about buying squad players, we should be buying players to improve the first team.

Let's hijack the deal. We need more depth in our squad and we could do with some creativity.

Our first XI is pretty good now. However, the drop off to the second string is huge. We won't increase our points total if the only way we can win games is to keep Bruno and Pogba on the pitch until they're passing out with exhaustion. We won four of our first 14 games last season. We know what happens when we have to rely on Pereira, Mata etc. We need more depth. It may take us year to get to the standard our squad was like a dozen years ago but that's what we should be aiming for.

Is it me or has he out on a lot of muscle?

Yes, but we need a centre back, left back, right winger and possibly a ball winner/DM if we’re going to challenge. Another midfield playmaker isn’t really vital at the moment.

The drop off could also because of the very unusual tight schedule & our backup players lack of match fitness due to lack of game time after 3 months break.

Really like Thiago to join us but if Ole thinks Thiago signing isn't one of the priority then he might have a good reason for it.

We definitely could do with a ball winning DM more than a backup AM,however Ole clearly wants to try out the McTominay experiment before going into the market.

In regards to a CB I could see us bringing one in later on this window, however think LB could well be a priority position next summer.

Why people are intrested in a injury prone player is beyone me. He has almost 25 career injuries and only 1 out of 7 seasons played over 30 games in Bundesliga.
there are only 34 games in Germany. And Bayern win the league nearly every year so I can imagine not needing him to play say the last few games.

He is a fantastic player. But even after 7 years watching him closely at Bayern, I still don't know whether he is a true 6, 8, or 10.

For instance at the moment, I think Kimmich at 6, Goretzka at 8 and going box-to-box, and Müller at 10 are the best line-up. On the other hand, I keep wondering if individually Thiago isn't better than all three of them and should therefore play anyway. It's strange with him, at least for me.

All that based on absolutely nothing

£30m euros is the price Bayern want for Thiago. That is an absolute steal.

We really should be looking at getting him to play the deep lying playmaker position in our team.

He, Pogba and Bruno would be an immense midfield.

Would never work in the PL against the majority of teams.

Of course it would. We play Fred and Matic against the majority.

Do you think Thiago can't handle himself in midfield? just look at the match against chelsea the other night, he does plenty of defensive work too.

Add to the fact he's insanely press resistant and probably one of the best passers in world football, he'd be perfect for what we need.

Have wanted us to sign him since I first saw him at Barcelona around 2011 and then there is the infamous saga of 2013 when he looked to be joining, however I am pretty confident he will agree a move to the scousers after Bayern's Champions League campaign is completed.

It just seems mad that a player like that can walk for 30m euros?

if we went for him you can guarantee it would be at least 60m. Maybe the only coach he wants to play for is Klopp but we should definitely give it a try. Surely De Gea and Mata could have some pull?

I agree. You need as many players with excellent technical ability as you can get into the side to be press resistant and play around teams. Way more useful than having a dedicated DM who runs around like a headless chicken, imo.

The DM that most people want is useful against teams who are better at football than you. And we are, hopefully, aspiring to be one of those teams, so someone like Thiago makes more sense to me.

I think it's a no brainer, if we don't get him we are idiots. This whole Sancho or bust thing is unhealthy. There are so many holes in our team and squad that need addressing too

You overrate the premier league.
How's Gundogan, KDB and Silva working?
Against the best trams we could bring in matic. But Thiago is a gem and if we can we should bring him.

He would elevate our team to some levels. It won't happen though because of the Sanchez experience that scarred us.

I think unless Utd got any sense at all that Liverpool weren't willing to pay what Bayern want then wouldn't expect anything to happen with him

Agree with all of this. If he's fit and motivated, he would be a dream signing for us.

Could not agree more with this post. This is the best value for money signing we can make this summer.

We could even cheekily bid €35m thereby pricing Liverpool out of the potential deal.

Are there any credible links that United are looking at him? He would be ideal, older than what we have gone for recently and presumably not much resale value - I hope that is not stopping us enquiring.

No credible links to us at all. Only posters who wish we where interested. The main interested team linked by the media is Liverpool and the Pep connection is also mentioned. 30 million euro is the price Bayern want.

His mind is probably already set for Liverpool. Such a shame.

Should go to Liverpool. City would also be a good choice but Liverpool really needs him whereas City has many players for his positions.

This is a signing I can get behind if he’s the player I remember. A creative spark in our midfield is probably the thing our starting XI need the most.

If this gets done we just need a quality forward to supplement the front three.

He'd be an awesome addition no doubt, but "really needs him"? That's quite an exaggeration, our team as it is doesn't really need anyone to challenge again next season, and it's not like he's an investment for the future. We have 7-8 players to challenge for 3 midfield spots, that's enough barring a serious injury crisis.

We should rather be thinking 2-3 years ahead and find some young players capable of challenging our front three for a place in our starting XI, but either i) they're way too expensive for us or ii) unwilling to sit on the bench to wait for our current front three's downfall.
