True, but there was at least evidence there were needles in the dressing room for the final for Germany. Plus it was like a calamity of everything that could possible go wrong for Hungary went wrong.Ole's Gunnar Win saying it just sounds like sour grapes.
Germany in 1954 lost to Hungary 8-3 in the group stage, If there was doping, they'd have been doped then, too. Seems the Hungarians got a bit cocky.
Argentina 78's win over Peru is a good shout, and lest we forget senior allegations against England (66) and Germany (74). Some decisions favouring England in 66 (Hurt's second, Rattin's dismissal) enhance suspicion.
England's failure to compete at the very highest level again makes them the worst winner for me, especially with those suspicious, decisive calls going their way.
Puskas was injured and there were no substitutions back then.
They also had bad preparations you wouldn’t have today like how their game against Uruguay went to extra time in the semi final so they missed the bus back to the hotel and had to find a way back. Uruguay were probably the second best team in the world then too so it wrecked them. Then there was a village fair where they were staying and several players reported bad sleep.
It was torrential rain which didn’t suit their passing game. Then there were a few dodgy refereeing decisions.
It actually wasn’t illegal to dope in 1954 so they couldn’t disregard the match, there was no mechanism to do so.
