Claims that The Wire isn't close to the greatest show ever and then lists GoT at number 1.
You should hang your head in shame, young man.
Still is despite the horrible S8. Name one episode on the wire thats anywhere near as brilliant as Hardhome, Battle of the bastards, that chaos is a ladder scene or the light of the seven moment. What happened to "opinions" all of a sudden

In terms of visual spectacle GoT will always outdo a grounded drama like The Wire. McNulty and Bunk solving a cold case, Omar witness testimony, almost anything involving Bubbz just to name few things that shit all over the GoT scenes.
Even the worst season is probably much better than anything GoT produced from S3 onwards.

It's fair to not rate The Wire as highly as most people do. But you actually rate Lost higher than The Wire. Lost?!

How on earth is anything I've said silly? You made the ridiculous statement that The Wire is nowhere close the best show ever and then proceeded to list shows that are inferior in almost every aspect.
Although considering the "better" episodes you listed its clear you prioritise spectacle and CGIfests over story telling and real drama.

Just finished the Wire after finishing The Sopranos earlier in the year. Fantastic TV don't know how I can follow it.
McNulty's character got progressively more unlikeable as the seasons went on I thought - although it was definitely understandable the way he was so bitter. The awkward date with the political advisor where he takes a huge confidence hit was entertaining. Also loved the character psychological profiling scene of ‘the killer’ in season 5 basically describing McNulty to a T.
Bunk was my favourite character and despite his alcoholism he never showed any huge flaws. Some quality lines he'd come out with. The funerals in the bar were brilliant how they'd all have a sing along and Bunk would throw up every time.
Will definitely be watching it back soon.

Also don't know if I missed something but why doesn't Michael give Duke money at the end like he does with Bug?. Basically leaves him to a terrible fate.

I recently discovered the only Wire podcast that I've ever been able to listen to for more than 20 minutes. Way down in the hole, on The Ringer, with Jemele Hill and Van Nathan. Each podcast is an hour long, and goes in depth into a single episode. They have interested things to say about the show, they're experienced broadcasters, and they both grew up in places that have a lot in common with West Baltimore. Also they enjoy each other's company, and enjoy making the podcast, and it shows.
Anyway, check it out if you're interested. Here is Season 1, Episode 1 - so far they are up to S02E01 (just dropped it this morning). Hope you like it!

Finished it and sorry but it is the weakest season . The docks storyline is just not interesting enough and Ziggy is the Jar Jar Binks of the Wire .
Still least im onto season 3 now and Marlo ,Carcetti and co storylines
Fair enough. I still find it one of the most memorable seasons of TV ever, across the spectrum of genres, due to its uniqueness while still fitting in to the narrative.
Like S2 Game of Thrones. Or...perhaps a season of Mad Men which I cannot identify offhand; I guess that merits a rewatch.

Well the worst season off the wire is still better than anything else . There were good moments in season 2 but it just felt a little off to me
For me, S2 was definitely NOT the weakest season.
S2 ending montage is the best though, tied up with S1 montage for me.

Season 2 was phenomenal. Season 5 with the serial killer shite was the weakest. Still a strong season though.

Season 3. Hamsterdam.
My fav is still season 1. I remember the first time I watched it years ago.... struggling to piece together and wondering what the feck was going on for the first 1 1/2 episodes. Then it sucked me in.
I think I saw like 6-7 episodes in a row and was starting to get ill from the lack of movement (off the couch or bed, cant remember and my eyes...) 5 seasons of urban decay porn.
Breaking Bad has nothing on The Wire. There are a busload of memorable characters in The Wire as opposed to Breaking bad.
A moment that stuck out, etched into my mind forever -- was when Stringer was dying... all that hard work, ambition all slipping away..... (and I have not even got that far in Season 3 yet and I still remember from the last time I watched it.)
The feck, feck, feck feck scene was a TV history moment. Kurosawa with the f-bomb.

Gah it’s so feckin good. Just the whole thing. Character development, storyline, plot twists... it’s just so spot on.

Have said it before but Season 2 keeps getting better.
Great show and all but it's not the best TV ever in a world that has "the Expanse" (which smokes game of thrones, the wire and everything else).
Still, binge watching it over a week was maybe one of the best winter weeks I ever spent
Season one is a level above all the rest of them, season two sucked - (don't care what anyone says) and hamsterdam was absolute GENIUS.

On season 4 now and forgot just how heartbreaking some of the scenes are involving the kids particularly Dukie.

Liked it, but no where near as good as The Sopranos for me, or arguably Better Call Saul (which is now better than Breaking Bad imo)

I liked The Sopranos more than a little but The Wire and Breaking Bad were a step above IMO for different reasons. I couldn't get through season 1 of Better Call Saul so maybe I should revisit it.
Season 2 is fantastic and anyone saying otherwise should give back their TV, they're not using it right.
