Music The Weeknd

Yeah, it started strong but almost everything after Take My Breath was forgettable.
It's a shame as he seems to put a lot of effort into the ''sonic universe'' building of his albums and getting a different range of people into the studio but the end result is something that would have sounded dated by the mid 80's.

Finally modern pop artists are looking to the 80s for inspiration.

I, for one, absolutely love it. Had to listen to it a few times though to get there.

But I'm also a die hard Weeknd fan. His amazing voice always elevates the songs to me.
I'm also a huge Swedish House Mafia, and I think the mix of their EDM influence, the 80s sound and Abels voice is fantastic. As on After Hours the production is also out of this world in this genre of music.

I loved After Hours aswell. But I think the narrative of that album was much more cohesive and strong. Dawn FM seems a bit more as a random mix of songs with the same sound. A bit like Starboy. It seems a little more tuned to do well on radio and charts. On After Hours I was far more emerged into his writing and the things he seemed to go through at the time. On Dawn FM I can't tell wether he finally has overcome his heartbreaks, or if he's just deteriorated into a darker and more hopeless state of mind.

It's grown on me too - wasn't a big fan on first listen. Only criticism is the features feel out of place. Love the Carrey bits - phantom regret is so good.

Yeah I really love this album, it flows absolutely beautifully. Phantom Regrets has absolutely no right being so good when it’s essentially a spoken word piece by Jim Carrey.
