From November post election, but relevant:
It's as much about how the Democrats conduct the next election cycle as much as who it is. There were points of note that got missed in the result from November. The critique by Trump of Dem raising/spending and the drive for celebrity endorsements. Ironically, these have been elements of the US election cycle typically derided by the left but it's now being done by the right. Also, the ability to engage with new media. The Democrats will need someone able to come across as real and sit down for podcast interviews and be out of their comfort zone to an extent.
Regardless of policy or person, they can't run the campaign the same way. Trump made it seem totally out-dated and detached.
I agree with this but think the who is inseparable from the how they run. Biden, because of his age and cognitive decline, and Harris, because of natural personality and lawyer training, were just really ill suited to this type of campaign. The Dems do need to run a campaign like you say, but they also need an articulate candidate capable and experienced at maneuvering in this climate. The Dems need a complete changing of the guard.
User name checks out.
GOP got their dream opponents in an aged Biden and inarticulate Harris. Any type of candidate, like Walz, that passes this "swing state" centrist test is going to both lose some enthusiasm from the left flank and not be articulate and social media sound byte savvy enough to really fight back.
Yeah I don't see any leader there who can challenge the republicans. It's clear the democrats need to reform and change their approach to win the public over after the last campaign. Not sure why you’d feel this bit in bold. Do you feel someone who is a “swing state centrist” isn’t savvy enough?
Based on the recent election, I don’t see how America is ready (or will be ready) to elect a progressive politician in the next cycle. There is no unifying message, they have no clear leader and if Newsom heads the Dem ticket in 28, all the Republicans need to do is cry “woke”, call him an incompetent socialist liberal (whatever sticks really) and the blue wall will crumble before we know it.
Not sure that'll happen in four years. They're still going on and on about the glorious Biden administration. They’re going nowhere until they grapple with, and accept, a lot of the issues that have led to much of Trump’s popularity.
