The UEFA Euro Fantasy Draft

Hate arguing against Theon, we are disagreeing on far too many things. What time suits you? Is something like Wednesday okay for you, guys?

I'm not around during the week mate - Friday or Saturday would be much more preferable if you can do one of those.

Saturday probably won't work for me. Is Friday too crowded already? @Balu
Yeah, 3 matches on one day really is a lot. I'd rather avoid it to be honest. I'm sure we'd have significantly less activity in the threads then. Maybe ask the others if they really can't play on another? If it's definitely the only day you and Theon can play.

So, the draw is fixed?

By the way, I'm a little disappointed with this "grab a pre-66 goalkeeper regardless of his Euro form" trend. Casillas wasn't picked, for example, when he clearly is a fantastic goalkeeper with flawless record in play-offs.

Btw how did Raimundo Orsi not get picked?

Other notable omissions include Tichy Lajos, Karl Koller, Luis Fernandez, Ashley Cole, Albertini and De Rossi. You could very well add Voller and Raul to the list as well. Tbf, the exclusion of most of these players are understandable but Orsi not getting picked seems weird esp with the scarcity of top class wingers in this draft, unless I'm missing something here.

That was the biggest surprise to me. We already used our Spanish quota...But he is probably one of the top available. Only thing I can think of is the nationality counting against him.

It's understandable and possible a smart thing to do....till we fix on how to get GK into voting consideration problem. With the nationality restrictions, picking a pre-66 odd country player gives you lot of flexibility...and he does not need upgrading till finals!

Edit: And getting form guide for a CEIC keeper is near impossible.

I was very tempted regarding Orsi but since I had to play a narrow formation, there was no room for him. It was between Cole and Alba for me for the LWB role but went with Alba as he was brilliant in the 2012 Euros.

Yeah, probably. I thought about it myself but decided to go with an actual match-winner and the best player in 1976 even if I could've just taken one of countless CEIC goalkeepers with no footage at all and a couple of nice quotes. I'm an idealist though.

We need to improve GK's influence on the game, surely.

I was close to picking Orsi but switched to Puc at the last moment due to Orsi being Italian.

Was shocked that Cole and De Rossi were not picked.

Between Cole and Zambrotta for me. Despite Italy's poor 2004, Zambrotta was the standout and was included in ToT (best fullback in the world that year too).

Tbh, With players like Facchetti, Bergomi, Baresi, Scirea etc available, I thought it doesn't make sense to spend an Italian quota on a GK or a midfielder. we planned accordingly and (hopeful of progressing) never picked any Italian in our team.

We didn't pick Totti last turn because he was Italian. Was considering Vialli too, but passed him.

You could have still picked them up. You can have more than 2 in the squad.

Also are we doing player profiles? I'm happy to do it and I like reading others specially about the lesser known players but I remember it went out of fashion and not many saw the point in doing it.

Was wondering the same. Or more, wondering if the player profiles should focus on their time in the Euro/CEIC.

I didn't send player profiles to Balu...I was going to save them for the thread, or post them here and link it.

Beckham and Seedorf '96 were surprising omissions. Beckham in particular produced a goal a game and still wasn't picked, bar his penalty misses I have a hard time seeing how the hell that worked. Did he concede anything from his side? Nope. Well one goal came from his side and it was a very very early cross that wasn't the fault of anybody.

Watched his entire Euro and it seemed to be the case of the British Media is as hard as regular, and the penalty misses. If England doesn't win it all they're losers who underperformed. If any other team finishes second they're very proud silver medalist heroes.

Looked at both to play in Arnesen's role, but neither had a good a tournament as he did....and Becks is always under appreciated anyway, it seems

That's what i'll do, anyways.

I had him throughout... just couldn't fit him in tactically.
