He was the dominant figure of the Euro 92, displaying performances that were reminiscent of Diego Maradona's 1986 World Cup exploits. He displayed a specialty for scoring spectacular free kicks, tireless stamina and dazzling dribbling sprees.
The Maradona comparison is rather generous, but he was the main man in a stacked tournament.

Wilfried Van Moer (Belgium - 1980)

Will be something of an unknown to most readers, but the most romantic story from the 1980 European Championships centred around the heroics of the 35-year-old veteran. Back in the 1972 quarter final win over Italy in which he scored, midfielder Van Moer broke his leg. His career at the very top seemed to be over as he struggled for fitness in the following years and he eventually went into international exile. Having not played for Belgium in almost five years, Van Moer was surprisingly recalled by legendary coach Guy Thys for a crucial qualifier against Portugal. Van Moer scored and Belgium progressed to the finals. In Italy, Van Moer was the star of the tournament as he won every midfield battle and displayed the energy and will of a player 10 years his junior. Van Moer dragged Belgium to the final where they lost 2-1 to West Germany

He was really magnificent in that tournament. He glued that young and inexperienced team together, always providing a passing option, pressing the opponents and covering an enormous amount of ground per game. It's also funny to look how he commands them, telling everyone where to run and who to pass to, a real "Le petit général".

He was voted 4th in 1980 Ballon D'Or list (behind Rummenigge, Schuster and Platini). After watching that tournament, I have to say, I fell in love with a guy - beautiful story and an inspiring performance. I'm surprised that he lasted until now tbf.

I was hoping someone would pick him, I have a soft spot for that Belgium side. Great pick.

Proved to be an influential figure for La Roja as he scored 4 goals and won 2 MOTMs awards in the 4 matches he played, inevitably ending up in the team of the tournament.

@Stobzilla

There is a pre 68 player who should have been a top 3-4 pick but for some reason (there is a reason but it most certainly isn't a strong enough one) hasn't been picked yet. Maybe I'm missing something.

If we're thinking of the same man (and I reckon we are) I was struck by the same thing earlier today. I had assumed somebody had picked him up – but it seems nobody has.

Very odd, I'd say.

Can I leave our pick with you mate?

your turn, mate!

Just found one post 68 player too! You could say top 10 in that position, but unpicked yet.
There are quite a lot pre-68 players still left that can qualify as "one of the top 10 in that position". But I really can't think of the one stand-out, even if I would've expected at least 5-6 more players to be picked at this point, maybe I missed someone obvious.
