The Trump Presidency - Part 2

Trump now saying he is very angry with Putin......
Honestly, what did he expect.

"If Russia and I are unable to make a deal on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia's fault - which it might not be... I am going to put secondary tariffs... on all oil coming out of Russia," Trump is reported as saying.

But later on Sunday, Trump told reporters he and Putin had "always gotten along well" and that he didn't think Putin was "going to go back on his word".

Trump repeated that he "wasn’t happy" with recent comments Putin has made, but added: "I think he’s going to be good."

I think he is going to be good. How stupid can you be.

We're just back to the bit about Trump admiring Putin and how he runs Russia in general, he likes praising him and wants to avoid saying anything that will actually upset him.

Or rather, they won't have the votes to overcome a Senate filibuster. There shouldn't be any trouble passing bills in the House. Its the Senate that would be the problem.

Even if they had a huge majority they wouldn’t play the same game as the Republicans and actually use their power

I'm sure that the party that officially doesn't even see any problems in the system will have no prolems unanimously designing a massive reform of it in few years, once they get another razor-thin majority. It didn't happen the last 50 times, but 51st will totally be the charm.

The president said he “couldn’t care less” if automakers raised prices in response to planned tariffs, reasoning that buyers would choose U.S.-made cars over foreign brands.

Biden or Harris says this, NYT and WaPo would have editorials calling for their removal. He can say anything and the only response is to regurgitate it as a headline.

It’s like a guilty pleasure of mine when I wake up and get my day started, to open this thread on the Caf, just to see what batshit crazy things he’s said or done the day before, as we’re around 6/8 hours ahead of the USA time zones. And without fail, there’s literal batshit crazy shite on the daily.

I think the latest crap, with Trump saying he is mad at Putin, is just him trying to make it appear as if he isn't completely controlled by Russia. Which he appears to be.

Even if he's trying to pretend that he's mad at him, he doesn't miss the chance to compliment him in the same interview.

 I was literally just thinking the same thing.

Comes across more like flirting than actual criticism.

“Don’t make me mad again. You naughty naughty boy”

Can he still cancel the tariffs that are set to start on Wednesday?
Of course. There's still two days and he doesn't need more than a few minutes to come up with another made up story of a phone conversation he had just had with another leader who, threatened by looming tariffs, has promised to give in and offer the world to the United States just to prevent them from implementing them. You can just guess who's the next leader to cave in.

It’s insane, geebs. This world we’re living in, with him in charge of the most powerful nation on earth

How did we get to this point? It would be pure entertainment, if it wasn’t also so bloody dangerous.
I hate the fact that he’s just obviously grifting for him and his mates, and feels that he can do anything he wants without consequence and damn everything else. It’s irritating, triggering and frustrating. Don’t even get me started on his so called cabinet/administration

There were so many legal cases against him but nothing seemed to stick.

I know I’m like a broken fecking record on this but I still can’t get over the people who were seriously against voting for Biden/Harris because they didn’t like them or (some of) their policies. It was a two horse race and this horrific bastard was riding one of those horses. Mind blowing that anyone who could have done something to stop what’s happening from happening would have chosen not to.

But Biden & Harris something something Isreal

You are not alone… i still can’t comprehend how he managed to get reelected.

Single issue voters.

The single issue being a geopolitical tragedy that doesn't actually impact most Americans. It's kind of sad - but what's really sad is people genuinely thought Trump would somehow be better for Palestinians.

go take a look at the election thread. The Gaza genocide was part of it, but looking at the way Harris was dismissed, and the different standard she (and Biden before her) were held to, tells you all you need to know. The Dems weren't pure enough and so they had to be taught a lesson.

I can't get over Biden/Harris choosing Israel and Liz Cheney and dementia over winning the election

If I was them I would have done anything to win the election against a proclaimed threat against democracy

Unfortunately they made the same mistakes Trump, Clinton, Romney, McCain, Kerry, et al made. They didn't turn out the voters needed.

Disclaimer: I had no say, I am registered to vote in a deep blue state

No one thought that.

I don't think its stupidity (although with Trump that is always a possibility), I suspect Trump thinks he has something on Putin, or something to exert pressure if Putin doesn't go along with 'the deal' that he is proposing.

Just what the 'something' could be is anyone's guess, but its more likely to be financial muscle rather than military muscle that Trump has in mind for leverage.

Trump is probably following a strategy of "never give a sucker and even break"... trouble is Putin may not have heard that one before.... dangerous times indeed!
