The squad is broken

I’m sick of all of them. Let them all go be broken somewhere else. They all disgust me.

How do you break a squad like this up though? We've sold one player this summer (Pereira) and he's not been on the pitch for us in over a year. We've sent two out on loan and some left after their contracts expired, but in terms of proactively moving on players we don't need/want, barely anything happened. Going forward, we obviously need to alter what we do with contracts so we don't get bogged down with dross we can't shift, but who's going to come in and rescue us from Maguire/Shaw/McTominay/Fred... I could go on.

I don't care about how bad we are at recruitment but it's the after effect that kills us.

Until we get even remotely decent at shifting the shite we've got, we'll never do anything.

As it is, I can't think of another club worse at selling players than we are.

Well too bad we haven't offered the DoF job to the only man who was at this club who actually saw how shite we are and had no problem saying so.
Who was brought in to eventually become a DoF...

Put all of the dross in the reserves and play hungry players from the youth team. It’s the path of least resistance at this point. Also drop kick Murtough out of the club. The man is a walking penis.

We still have Phil Jones for crying out loud. Don't get me wrong, he's not directly responsible for much of what's going wrong, and attitude-wise he seems like a good egg to me, but the fact we're still paying him a wage is criminal. Why doesn't he want to leave? Why isn't he pushing for one? Doesn't he want to rebuild his career? So what if he won't get paid as much elsewhere, he won't be pushed into penury.

Maybe I'm harsh going in on Phil Jones when he's not responsible for what's happening right now and actually has a Premier League winners medal, but he's symbolic of our failure and mismanagement.

Anyone remember Fred being a flop and McTominay being a non factor, then Ole got the job with no midfield signings and turned them into a workable midfield duo and played to the teams strengths? Yeah. The few times we've tried to build towards something, some other thing comes along and gets us distracted. The one constant though is lack of investment and it's not about one window. The "change" of approach from Van Gaal era where we bought a lot of flops is not real, that approach is still in play, it's just drawn out over more time now so our decline is ongoing, with no reward no risk just a slow but steady decline.

We've not actively tried to sell any of the "better" players though. You could argue Martial, but that was not happening asap once he found pre-season form.

I think we'd be able to shift most of them if we really were to go the route of acknowledging that this squad needs dismantling. We would have to stay in the real world and face up to not recouping what we've paid or being forced to subsidise quite a few wage packages. But there'd be a market for most, if not all of the players.

To change the culture of low work rate, low confidence, and low quality, we needed to make more drastic changes to the squad. 2 or 3 players just isn't going to cut it, no matter how good they might be. We needed 5-7 players this summer accepting that maybe only 3-4 of those would actually work out. Then repeat that as many times as required.

It's going to be an expensive task sorting out this squad, but it must be clear to all that work with them that they can't be fixed. Without changing the majority of them the few new ones that come in will just be infected by the others, and it'll continue to be difficult to know who could be salvaged.

The players have had a clean slate with two new managers, and they haven't responded to that at all. It's time the club backs the manager with providing a clean slate squad rebuild.

Practically this will have to be next summer now but we need to do some business in order to finish top half and look semi attractive to good players with not being a champions league club any time soon.

Oles core needs to be disposed of before they get another manager sacked and another clean slate under Poch or someone

We should just stick to a crude version of cantennacio. Defend, park the bus and go long for goal scoring opportunities.

Forget about possession play, high line, passing around the press and all that sophisticated stuff. The players are not good enough for that and never will be.

We may actually have a better chance of keeping clean sheets and if we are lucky, nick a 1-0 win.

Rangnick recognised it. It's a broken squad and needs to be dismantled. We can run through as many managers as possible but until we do what needs to be done, this will continue.
I don't even think it is a question of talent. I think it is psychological. They are not fit to play.
Yep, it’s mainly mental. They’re completely broken and an infusion of fresh faces and fresh minds is desperately needed. Players that haven’t been dragged through the mud and suffered through the toxicity of the last few years.
