The so called "world class" player

To sum all the posts

Strictest sense of the term: a player who belongs to the top 11 (or 22 or 33) best players in the World.
I don't think that's strict enough. It means that merely "decent" players can be world class. We often go through short or longer spells where the best in their position isn't close to the best in the previous generation. It for example feels wrong to call a defender who is far inferior to Rio Ferdinand a world class centre back. So I think you'd need a broader scope than just here and now. But: who cares?

I don't understand this. There are players on those teams that I wouldn't categorize as world class. If we are referring to Pogba, he played for a very good Juve side in a one side league; was he considered world class in Serie A?
oh yes he was

Can a player still be considered world class if:

1. He is not able to bring his teammates up to another level, especially in difficult mayches.
2. He needs other world class players around him so that he himself can perform at world class standards.
3. He only has world class perdormance when he plays against small teams.
4. If opponents are top teams with world class players, he mostly play like shit.

What do you think?

1. You can only lead by example on the pitch and hopefully teammates will follow suit. Not always the case, though. I.e. Sanchez for Arsenal
2. Life is made a lot easier when playing with other 'world class' players.
3. Consistency is good either way, but to be world class, you need to be doing it in the big games.
4. Think it all depends on how your team is playing. If your up also playing poorly, then it's excusable, I guess. If your team is playing very good, and you're playing bad, then it's not acceptable.
