The Single Best Sporting Event You've Ever Seen

Has to be the 2008 Wimbledon Championship final between Nadal & Federer. I honestly didn't care who won as I was just enjoying the spectacle.

I remember I was watching it with my mum and just had a really great time. My brother had recorded the whole thing unbeknownst to me so, by the time he came home with me and my mum going on about how great the match was, I, in my excitement, blathered to my brother that Nadal won and completely ruined the 4+hour spectacle for him. I'll just say he wasn't best pleased.

Here's some of my favourite athletics moments.

1991 Men's Long jump final at the World Championships, that battle between Carl Lewis and Mike Powell was incredible, culminating in the world record which still stands to this day.

1995 Men's Triple Jump final at the World championships, Jonathan Edwards with a huge set of jumps and breaking the world record by a massive chunk.

1996 Men's 200m Olympic final, seeing Michael Johnson take a huge chunk off his own world record, never thought that 19.32s would be beaten in my lifetime and then Bolt comes along 18 years later to take it.

2009 Usain Bolt smashing his own 100m WR at the World Championships. 9.58 is a ridiculous time.

2012 David Rudisha in the 800m at the London Olympics, dominated the race from start to finish with a new world record, going sub 1:41
If I had to pick five from athletics, it would likely be that same five. Lewis and Powell's long jump final is as good as it gets.

Watching England win the World Cup in 1966 is my first sporting memory and although I've seen many great sporting moments since, it will always stand out as the greatest for me.

Some of Pacquaio's fights when he moved up to welterweight were incredible. Not long before people were dismissing it as unrealistic, then here he was beating monsters like Cotto and Margarito.

A niche choice no doubt, but this flight of weightlifting was unreal for me, with Ilyin fighting to maintain his undefeated record in competition. The business end of the clean and jerk was nail biting.

Ben Johnson, Seoul 1988 100mt.

I just remember thinking, fecking hell that was sensational.

Super Bowl 49/51
1999 CL Final
08 Wimbledon Final
Usain Bolt breaking WRs.

Nothing new from what's been mentioned already TBF.

I also agree with the last AUS Open final - seeing Nadal and Federer wind back the years was surreal.

Ben Johnson, Seoul 1988 100mt.

I just remember thinking, fecking hell that was sensational.

I was going to put that on my list too. The way he exploded out of the blocks was amazing.
