Television The Shannara Chronicles

I have not read this series so far, but from what I heard about the TV Show, it seems that its based on the 2nd Book of Trilogy, which seems really weird.

The trailer looks awesome though.

@Waldner

You'll probably like the look of this given that you like 100.

Cheers for the heads up!

Looks like it might be a bit teen-y but definitely could be good! Like a mix of The 100, GoT, Lord of the Rings and Elder Scrolls...

Haven't read the series.

From what I've heard other people say, the series is absolutely awful and apparently anyone who has read it hates it.

Watched the first episode.

Quite good if you ignore the certain MTV-ish bits. Plot seems to be quite predictable though.

Stunning backgrounds, good special effects.

The rest isn't really good. But it can be quite funny.

Some changes to the book though I may have missed some since I don't remember much of the book. Like the Chosen aren't any longer chosen.

The language feels a bit off at tines. It's a bit too modern for a setting that is clearly not modern.

I really need to read the books again as it's probably been over a decade. I'm struggling to remember what actually happened in them and how close the tv series is following. They weren't in my absolute top echelon of fantasy favourites, but they may have been bordering on my top 5 and certainly top 10.

I'm somewhat 'iffy' about the show so far. It's not as good as I was really hoping it would be, mostly since it feels like they are struggling to fit everything in so everything is happening so fast and there's barely any character development. And it's a bit 'cheesy', and sometimes it's a little annoying how everybody is so young and pretty...but then I remember that they are elves so they probably should be young and pretty. Allanon certainly doesn't look like I pictured him either. But on the other hand, it's still a good interesting adventure show that I am quite enjoying. I haven't watched television (besides sport) for three or four years, so this must be doing something right for me to actually keep watching it.

The main elf girl is not entirely unattractive.
She is quite nice, in a boring kind of way. Although maybe she's just suffering in my eyes next to the human girl, who I literally can't take my eyes off when she's on screen. Only Jessica Alba in Dark Angel and Kristin Kreuk in Smallville have stun me like that before. I'm tempted to re-watch the episodes just to watch her.

Not creepy at all... :nervous:

Seems pretty good so far, though that elf princess doesnt seem like a good actor to busy appearing wide eyed and trying to appear cute all the time. On 3rd episode now, seems very engaging and entertaining from the get go

Watched all 6 episodes so far. Not bad and worth watching but a bit too cheesy at times.

Agreed, some irritating bits but as a whole much better than i thought. They certainly did not spare money of VFX

True. Would like a bit more info on the War of the Races they keep on speaking about. I like the guy who was in Dexter. He's the best actor of the lot for me.

P.S - On an unrelated note, is your username based on anyone in particular?

That playground seemed so out of place.

Its on 5Star channel in the UK. First episode aired yesterday. Don't understand why 5Star have it when it could have gone on HD channel 5. Hope they introduce 5StarHD soon, quality is average.

Anyway, can we discuss book plotlines on here? I read the books a long time ago but I remember how the books start and the ending. Just had a question on the main protagonist.

Yeah don't mind, I haven't got round to watching it yet myself, throw it up in spoiler tags just to be safe.

Ok, but warning to anyone not to read this spoiler if you haven't read the books but wish to enjoy the series. I have given away the ending so don't open!!

So what I remember of the opening to Shannara is that a very special type of magic stirred in 'heaven'/'magicland' which was wild and unexpected. Unseen before. As we know that special magic is given human(elf) form into that blonde lad. He will eventually use those three elf stones to save those that are destined to be saved. They've skipped a lot of that - I guess they had to as this is a different medium.

Good to see Crixus back on TV after Spartacus. :)

It's been decent so far. Looking forward to the finale. Parts of it feel very rushed though. I thought several storylines had a lot of potential but either ended abruptly or was ignored altogether.

I hadn't realised until the 8th episode that this was post apocalyptic world rather that being set in the middle ages. Made it a lot more interesting.
