Only two choose to go with Beckenbauer, interesting. But Di Stefano

its a gamble. i changed my mind at the last minute because of the messi phenomenon the last time round

When I opened the PM box, I had the different pick in mind, I even typed it  He probably is picked by someone in the lucky trinity though. Di Stefano is the most obvious choice, with his versatility and everything, but yes, "the messi phenomenon"

Cruyff and Beckenbauer
Get your second pick through guys. Let's get this over with.

Round 1, Stage 2 picks need to be in by 12pm GMT, on January 6th.

@NM @NoPace @kps88 if you guys want to start thinking of some sheep for this round, by all means, please do :)

Oh I have some great ideas. There are some truly excellent managers with SHIT playing careers.

What is the Messi phenomenon?

Morons, Di Stéfano was never going to make it, not a chance in hell. Cruyff/Beckenbauer/Rijkaard would always be cases of at least one on them, thus block (which isn't a bad strategy with those). There was an obvious one among the GOATs, and he very likely got through. Or not?

In the last sheep draft. Such an obvious pick but so obvious that no-one picked him in all 3 rounds thinking that he would have been blocked.

Think that's the reason we had so many Di Stefano picks this time. He wasn't gonna slip through though for this reason.
He was blocked in the 2nd round. After it became clear that he wasn't blocked in the first round, several of the managers took the chance even though it could have been possible that someone actually got him in the 1st round. I think @VivaJanuzaj actually had him as his pick at first, but changed it to someone else.

 Better listen to "mister I got a sheep in the first criterion last time", he obviously knows what he's talking about ;).

I thought Cruyff might actually slip through, because many don't really know what to do with him and therefore expected that few would go for him. It's also clear now, that Nesta shits all over Beckenbauer in drafts on the caf. How many went for Nesta in the first round last time? 5 or 6?

Yep, sent Messi, than changed it to Maldini who got picked by 7 other players too

Nah, I thought both Beckenbauer and Cruyff were so obvious and handy that very few would go for them, but just enough. Di Stéfano looked every bit the one the most would go for. Picking any of them was going for a block, simple as.

I thought the GOATs that could sneak through would be at least one of Rijkaard, a certain German chap I've managed recently and one of the top GOATs, the latter my favourite here for the exact put-off reasons you mention Cruyff: not quite knowing how to play him and him ruling out other top top vote-winners. He had the best odds going by a mile. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually emerges unblocked at the other end while various managers get sheep :smirk:

I may have overplayed the "don't listen to me, I got a sheep last time around", I wrote all the stuff above on a convo with sajeev... so his logical quintuple-bluff conclusion was to go for Don Alfredo

Anto please stop hinting at players. You do this all the time. Just stop.
