The Second RedCafe Sheep Draft

@MJJ, I know you are looking like this
528.jpg

but trust us, he is actually rather good, and we kept in mind the fact you may want Carlos as a wingback so Eboue was ideal for a pair of fullback or wingbacks.

There's also a large percentage of caftards who invariably pick Eboue in every single poll, so he may turn out to be a devastating secret weapon!!!

UPDATED

NoPace - Liedholm, K. H. Forster, Hugo Sanchez
KPS88 - Dino Zoff, Del Piero, Bergomi
NM - Puskas, Platini, Tardelli
Harms - Hikegkuti, Passarella, Perez
Annahnomoss - Guardiola, Garrincha, Landa
MJJ - Hitzfeld, R. Carlos, Eboue
MDFC Manager - Shankly, Seaman, Veron

Edgar Allan Pillow - Rocco, Scholes, Pantsil
VivaJanuzaj - Ancelotti, Ferdinand, Kenwyne Jones

Cutch - Lobanovskiy, Nilton Santos, Bozsik
Sajeev - Capello, Seedorf, Davids
Kazi - Stein, Scirea, Boniek
Stobzilla - Stankovic, Ince, Tioté

Tiote the pick of the sheep in this round. Which is fair considering the mess up that happened for Stob's final pick.

Some excellent pairs/picks here, of course. Too many to comment on, really. My personal favourite would be Cutch's, though, at a push.

Bold move by Annah, going for Garrincha plus what has to be classed a sheep - selling that one as anything but will be very difficult. But when looking at the results, I thought for some reason that Annah was sheeped in the first round (too), which he wasn't. So, given that, the move remains a bold one rather than a reckless one, one could argue.

Don't think it is a sheep. He has gone for someone relatively unknown and as other said, unknown players tend to be ignored rather than be penalized by most of the voters.

Great picks by Cutch. Santos and Bozsik have legitimate claims to being the greatest ever in their LB and deep lying playmaker positions. Might be underappreciated in relative to the more recent legends but still brilliant picks.

Was seriously considering goingg for them but couldn't resist a shot at el fenomeno

Well, possibly. I'd say the problem here is that his man isn't simply obscure in the sense that most people don't know anything about him. He's a player it will be pretty hard to make a case for - and that makes him an instant liability the moment someone decides to focus on him. An obscure but somewhat sell-able player is not the worst acquisition: Either he's ignored - or you make some sort of case for him. But it the latter isn't a realistic option, he's too close to a sheep for comfort, I'd say.

@Cutch what made you go for Bozsik and Santos?:mad::mad::mad:

They were my safe pick and Bozsik and Puskas belong on the same team!!!

Pipe down and don't be greedy.:)

Can't believe @Annahnomoss had the guys to go Garrincha + sheep. I considered it, but thought it too risky.

Annah not afraid to take risks. Usually spunks 200 of the 300 million in the auction drafts on 3 players. I like the cut of his jib.

Yeah extremely chuffed to get those 2. Santos was a stalwart in the all time draft for me.

If I had to rate the teams now, it would be as below. Just based on my personal preference of players....

No Sheep:

1. NM - Puskas, Platini, Tardelli
2. kps88 - Dino Zoff, Del Piero, Bergomi
3. harms - Hikegkuti, Passarella, Perez
4. NoPace - Liedholm, K. H. Forster, Hugo Sanchez
5. Annahnomoss - Guardiola, Garrincha, Landa

1 Sheep:

1. Kazi - Sheep, Scirea, Boniek
2. Joga Bonito - Sheep, Hierro, Effenberg
2. Cutch - Sheep, Nilton Santos, Bozsik
2. Sajeev - Sheep, Seedorf, Davids
3. MDFC Manager - Sheep, Seaman, Veron
3. Raees - Sheep, Batistuta, A. Cole
4. BorisDeLaFora - Sheep, Cafu, Lucio
4. Stobzilla - Stankovic, Ince, Sheep
4. VivaJanuzaj - Ancelotti, Ferdinand, Sheep

2 Sheep's

1. MJJ - Sheep, Sheep, R. Carlos
1. Edgar Allan Pillow - Sheep, Scholes, Sheep

Me & MJJ are obviously ranked first :p

The next criteria is straight forward. Directly after that will be a curveball.
WARNING

After the next round (round 4)
, there will be a "manager event" before round 5.

Enjoy :)

So Round 4 will be a curveball followed by a manager event. mmm. Hope this is where we lose a random player and I can afford to lose 50% or more of my team, no sweat.

But going my luck, I'll get a sheep in R3 and lose Scholes in managers event :(

I have a theory that "Manager Event" means live mental breakdowns due to the effects of round 4.

I am getting way too much credit for this. I just pick the "most obvious" pick or if I need to research - the first I find, then move on. Matthäus-Maradona, Di Stefano, Puskas are my picks so far. Just having a laugh blocking "that obvious pick" every round.

I checked if Pele and Garrincha got carded together and they didn't and this Landa dude apparently did so I just went with it as it meant I didn't have to research further. Figured it would be the most awesome block too if someone else went that route.

An interesting fact from my research:

The all-time leader in senior caps for either gender, Kristine Lilly of the United States, had 352 caps and retired from football on January 6, 2011. Eleven other women — eight of them American, two from China, and one each from Germany and Sweden — have 200 or more caps. No man has obtained 200 caps.

Staggering!

I'm sure we are all on that same wiki page tearing our hair over who to choose

Man, this is a tough choice. I guess the question is, can a block be a win?

I'm sure we are all on that same wiki page tearing our hair over who to choose
Was going through each country individually before attempting to search for one page with everything. :wenger:

Agree with that but I'd personally have myself above MDFC.. Batistuta and Cole are rock solid picks whereas Seaman and Veron are questionable.

I'm going to need 6-8 hours. No time to do research

It's going to be another 5 minute job for me as well I think. Surely weekend deadlines have to be longer?

ROUND 3 CRITERIA

Select a player who has 100 or more international caps for their country.

Deadline will now be set at 10am GMT on January 10th, to allow for a full 24+ hours for research and picks.
If all picks are submitted before then, results will be posted.

There is still another 12 hours to the deadline, so take your time. You actually don't need that much time for research tbh. Its all there in one page in a fairly obvious source. Shouldn't take too long to gather the pool for selection but choosing a player can understandably a headache.

Surely this ain't a category which demands massive research? More a question of throwing the dice and hoping your man won't get blocked, I would have thought. Unless you want to play it ultra safe and go for someone half decent who nobody else will bother with - and even that strategy shouldn't depend on much research.

Reasonable list but I'll place Cutch ahead of me and viva ahead of stob

Yeah this one was fun to research. Shouldn't take more than 15-20 minutes to get your pick decided.

mmm, not sure. The drafts usually feature top class wingers, and Cole against any top RW (far less Garrincha) is open to debates. Batistuta is solid and my favourite. Veron can be a solid sell, but it depends on players around him, imo.

I'd say he is fairly easy to sell as a winger killer compared to many - in fact, his habit of shutting up top wingers is one of the key points people usually bring up when he features in these things.

Can we have a round where the pool of players is everyone picked up to that point?

Mayhem.

mmm, personally I would have thought he would be considered suspect in 'leaving spaces behind' argument that usually features here.
