One of the best storylines ever written? It currently spans out to 6 films, and each is relevant to each other. Each ends in a way you'd never expect (Saw II ending was the best, literally one of the best endings id ever seen simply because of the shock/surprise value) and the overall storyline is superb and well though out i feel. The films are literally like, no pun intended, a jig-saw, where the pieces of the puzzle are filled.

Added to the fact its one of the most gorest series out there, its a top top franchise.

Are there any other movie series that are just as thought out as Saw?

Should have ended it with the first one, they got worse and worse.

The quality maybe. After the first, i thought how are they going to top this? And i actually think they did with the second one. After that, maybe the quality went down, but they couldnt have more people locked in rooms like the first and second, for the rest of the series tbf. Also, the story is so complex as it is, extremely well thought out, a story like this is difficult to produce on film. That said, i think theyve done a great job, and i like the films.

And as for gore, yeah, that got worse and worse, but in a good way. I dont often have to look away when watching horror films, but sometimes watching saw, you have to :(

First was great. The rest are just trying to generate money of it. IM(H)O.

It's just become very convoluted now. The first was very clever and the ending was superb. Then they just milked it.

I think Piranha 3D will challenge Saw for being incredibly well written and will be so good it also will span over a 6 film franchise.

Loved the first one, second one was OK, walked out half way through the third one and quit right there.

But now you dont know the full story :(

Should be noted, that i watched all of them in one chunk this week, compared to other who had to wait years between releases. i may have been more inclined to watch them all as i knew they were all there to watch, and i was gripped on the storyline.

I like the Saw series. The first one is definitely the best one, as literally no one would have guessed the ending. The Second film is ok, another good ending, but after that it went a little downhill, with the 5th film being the worst. The sixth film isnt that bad, another good ending. Im looking forward to Saw 3D as they have said it will be the last one, and from the trailer looks quite different to previous films.

 Kin ell.

 The first two SAW films were good. But mainly because the idea was so unlikely original and the world had previously seen nothing on that sort of level before. The story lines were ok, but certainly nothing special.

But as they developed the series they moved away from the story line and towards concentrating on making the films as gruesome as possible. What we are left with is a series of films that has so many plot holes, and things that don't make sense that they have effectively ruined the good work they did in the first 2 films.

Whilst I love the SAW films, I love them for their originality. The story line as it develops becomes very poor. It is very obvious to me that they made it up as they were going along.

One thinks you should spend some time reading a few novels by Stig Larsson to learn to appreciate good story lines

1 was an original idea and a very good film. 2 was pretty good, 3 was just a gore fest and then I lost interest.

Surely the Police Academy films could challenge Saw for one of the best storylines ever written?

Lads lets not look at the gore-ness right now. Just the main storyline from beginning to end. There isnt one, from beginning to end. Each film takes us back, and forward, so we can see how things were done. How many of you realised amanda was there the night jill lost the baby(which explains her devotion to john)? Or that if it wasnt for hoffman, amanda wouldnt be dead?

And jill is a good enough reason to watch the movies alone, shes just

thats the problem Mickey, they write a story, then write another one and find some stupid way in which to link them....

There is no story line. Well there was, but than the film makers greed destroyed what little story there was. They had to make whatever ridiculous links they could to existing plot lines to tie it all in together... When you watch the last 4 you can see that they have basically made it up as they've gone along. Which is why the story line is so bad, hell there are so many plot holes, and things that just don't make sense!

First one was ok, second a bit rubbish, haven't watched the rest.

Well when you put it like that it certainly sounds like it'd give Hitchcock a run for his money.

Perhaps I was too eager to judge.

You are deluded Mickey :p

if you read any reviews of the last 3 or 4 SAW films you will see the reviews of the people in this thread echoed.

Good films, they might be. But do they possess good story lines, I think not.

Go educate yourself man

I dont know why so many of you are so critical about films in general. Not every film has to be an epic - the Saws were all worth a view & were very entertaining & fecking gruesome also...

I always try to find some enjoyment in watching a flick - apart from that nonsensical "Burn after Reading" - which should have been called "Burn after watching"!
