I think I'm splitting Round 1 into East and West. I prefer splitting the series in half, but you old farts couldn't help yourselves - no, you just all had to be in the playoffs.
The 68-win Suns only beating the 40-win Mavericks at by 12 points, at home, is legitimately shocking.
That's more like it! Lil-Nut with an excellent performance for the Timberwolves. These two teams should be quite evenly matched, but I'm not quite so sure.
Good news/bad news situation. The bad news is that Skizzlet is injured. The good news is that they win anyway after a glorious game from Sonius. The Spurs will hope that Round 1 of the playoffs lasts the full duration, so that Skizzlet has more time to come back, if only at reduced capacity initially.
Portland are the solid favourites here, and this game didn't make me think otherwise. reelworld II has a history of good but also some bad performances in the playoffs, but maybe the change of scenery - and conference - means we'll see more of the former and less of the latter?
That's more what I was expecting. Heine with a very good performance - one out of many in this team.
Another easy win for Minnesota, though the injury to Allen Iverson is not ideal. At least it's not a long one, and they seem too good for their opponents either way.
Another Spurs starter out with injury! It could have been worse, but if they keep up this pace they'll be looking far down the bench before long. Sonius is doing what he can, and for now it's enough.
Closer, but a win is a win! Another very good game by reelworld II.
Yeah this one is going to be a sweep. Cameron Boozer is trying to make a miracle happen, but it's not enough.
Maybe a sweep here too? At the very least we'll see The Cub in his (un)natural habitat: the 2nd Round of the playoffs. Despite having a wonderful individual career, he's only been there once, and that was 10 years ago. He might have gone further, but he was unlucky enough to meet the 79-3 win Spurs there. Though this time he looks likely to meet the superteam Suns, which might not be much easier.
Maybe the injuries are taking their toll? This was easy for the Kings! This one is definitely not over yet.
There's one of those bad reelworld II games, but to be completely fair it was mirrored by most of his teammates. I wouldn't be particularly worried, unless the Lakers somehow manage to take game 4 as well. Then I would be worried.
Well yeah, obviously.
The sweep is called off, despite The Cub putting in an old-school performance for his team. They'll win game 5, though, I'm sure of it.
Back on track! And Carlton Carrington is back, sort of. Yet another amazing showing from Sonius here. That man doesn't think he's done winning rings, and he's not going to let his former teammate win one for free with the Suns.
Portland are back on track as well! Another good one from reelworld II, though Jaden Springer also really impressed.
The Timberwolves are through! It wasn't a sweep, but 4-1 is perfectly acceptable. The Cub with 17 rebounds in 24 minutes, and Lil-Nut with a good all-round performance as well. I doubt they'll beat the Suns, but maybe they can put up a fight?
Another 4-1! And again it's Sonius with the star performance, putting up 22/23/5.
And 4-1 here as well. reelworld II didn't get the numbers, but he also only played 21 minutes as the win was never really in question for Portland (and he picked up 5 quick fouls).
No real surprises here! The biggest surprise would be that the Timberwolves dispatched the Clippers so easily, considering they were supposed to be almost completely evenly matched.
Time to see what happens in the East! The West was a quick set of series, will the East follow suit?
Is Wilt, Elton Brand and Shaq overkill at Center? No, says Boston. And they appear to be right.
What even is defending? Nobody in New York or Detroit could tell you, if this game is anything to go by. Two Nil with the monster 34/15/19 performance. If you put up those numbers I think you're frankly allowed 5 turnovers too. weeweeteehas a very good game too, but can't quite match his rival.
Dan II facing off against his previous long-time team, what a thriller! Charlotte aren't bad, really, but it's not a good sign when Hornet scored more than 10 points - and he scored 11.
Slight injury troubles for the Nets, but it doesn't seem to hinder them noticeably. Nobbers drops 37 points in 35 minutes, so that's cool.
The Bulls are struggling to score here. It took Bender 23 shots to get to 25 points, which isn't ideal. sontodevil can do a lot, but he definitely can't help his team with that.
A little bit more defending than game 1, but not a lot! This time weeweetee wins out in the (old) superstar contest.
Dan II managed to take 6 threes in the 7 minutes of playing time before he got injured. Admittedly he only hit one of them, but if his luck had changed throughout the match he could have helped the Hornets do something here.
Another easy win for the Nets, and another great performance by Nobbers. BenitwoSTARRLET contributes heavily to the defence as well, with a nice 6 blocks/6 fouls combo.
12 offensive rebounds from sontodevil, but again there's the scoring issue. To be fair, though, nobody would ever think this Chicago team could beat this Boston team in the playoffs.
Jonathan Kuminga with an impressive -4.8 GameScore in 28 minutes. That takes dedication.
This one is headed for a sweep, surely. The 76ers are just stronger in every way.
Another sweep candidate. Nobbers even has a slightly off game, but the Nets still have no problems beating the Raptors.
And there's our first sweep of the round in the East. Not a big surprise. sontodevil did what he could, but it was never going to be enough against this team.
The Knicks keep scoring ludicrous amounts of points on the Pistons. weeweetee must be missing the defensive stability that his old mate Lil' V.O. used to provide for him. Though the last time they played together they didn't even make the playoffs, so maybe this isn't too bad? Two Nil with a fantastic 39.6 GameScore.
No sweep! Dan II only got a couple of points, but those points were the difference between OT (which they would probably lose) and the win.
And another expected sweep. BenitwoSTARRLET is a casualty, but she'll be back for the next round for sure.
I wouldn't really call the Knicks the underdogs, even though they had the very slightly worse regular season record. So we can't really call this an upset, though I thought the Pistons would grab at least another win. They got closer in this game, to be fair, and defended much better than earlier in the series. Again the aging stars weeweetee and Two Nil did the heavy lifting on their teams.
No big surprise here! LeBron drops 35 on Dan II's Charlotte, though it took him 33 shots to do it.
Two big favourites in Phoenix and Boston, but other than that anything could happen. I wouldn't be shocked if one of those drops a few games too, or even loses.
Good attempt from Lil-Nut, but not even Heine having a bad game is enough to tip the scales in Minnesota's favour.
Huge 30 point win from Portland, despite a 22/17/6 performance by Sonius.
14/15/14 from Two Nil, but for him that's a mid playoff performance. He's got some more points in him, and the Knicks need it to beat this Boston team.
The East goes through LeBron James.
Every single Suns starter had more points than every Timberwolves starter. That says it all, doesn't it?
Only 5 points in it this time, but the Trailblazers take the win! Another great game from Sonius, and reelworld II contributes 18 assists for Portland this time.
19/14/14 from Two Nil this time, he's ramping up. But I'm not sure it's happening fast enough.
Nets tie! 37 points from Bones Hyland, and a very efficient 29 from Nobbers.
Pretty close this time, but the result is the same. Lil-Nut with a fantastic performance, putting up 30/3/18, with only a single turnover. The Cub also has a great game with 22/21/1 (and no turnovers!) - and yet the Suns win. This might not be possible for the Timberwolves.
Huge game from the Spurs to get back in the series. Skizzlet is back, which might prove decisive.
Is this going to be a sweep, then? For once Two Nil doesn't get a playoff triple double, though not for a lack of effort. He fouled out after 23 minutes.
The 76ers retake the lead as Nobbers plays a stinker. Somehow the team with an eFG of 41.7% won the game by 15 points. I guess Scottie Barnes getting 11 points on 10 turnovers didn't help either.
Another decent attempt by Lil-Nut and The Cub to delay the inevitable, but it was inevitable.
And we're back to square one.
Better from Two Nil and New York!
LeBrooklyn Nets.
The Spurs have turned it around! Both Sonius and Skizzlet with very good performances this time, and an esven better one from Carlton Carrington. reelworld II keeps putting up fairly low scoring numbers and quite high assists numbers.
Are we seeing an unlikely comeback here? It's unlikely, but that's why they call them unlikely comebacks.
Another 39 points from LeBron, and this one is over! The series was closer than the final 4-1 score suggests, but it all amounts to the same thing in the end: the Nets are out and the 76ers are going to the Conference Finals!
The Spurs with the sort-of reverse sweep! They're just really quite difficult to score on when both Skizzlet and Sonius are up for it.
Ah well, the comeback was not to be! It was a damn good effort, though, particularly considering the breadth and depth of this Boston team. Two Nil closed out the series with a wonderful 22/20/14, but when Wilt drops 39 on the other side, and Elton Brand drops 24, it's going to be really tough.
Disappointing from our Eastern Cafites! But we've got some solid ones in the West still.
It must be nice for Heine to play on a team where he can have 3 points in a Conference Final and still win by 30+ points.
Well, that's the series. The Spurs had a tiny chance if both Skizzlet and Sonius played out of their minds, but they have no chance at all when one of them is out for the rest of the series.
Conventional wisdom dictates that you generally don't want to lose Game 1 of the NBA Finals by 30 points.
Oof, Wilt goes out with a fractured finger, and that's going to be a huge problem for the Celtics.
No Wilt is no fun for Boston. Particularly when Shaq goes 1-9 and Elton Brand goes 5-19. Heine contributes a solid 19/2/12, on the other hand, with a game best GameScore.
The Final sweep is complete!
Heine is a 7x champion! Accumulate those legacy points, son.
Getting rid of a mid-first round pick for a decent player and two more firsts is probably the best trade I've seen one of my teams make. Shame it's a little late in the day...
