Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

I defy anyone not to shed a tear at The Champ!

Some other honourable mentions:

Seven Pounds
The Green Mile
The Color Purple
A Time to Kill
It's a Wonderful Life
Miranda Richardson's breakdown in 'Damage'
NEVER watch that with a hangover. Bawling my fecking eyes out choking on my own tears.

La La Land - Really good film, Ryan Gosling is brilliant. Can't help but think that it would have been better if in the final scene, Gosling jumped onto the drums and started playing Whiplash. Or Caravan. 8/10

Chungking Express - Loved it. Hong Kong is the perfect setting being such a unique place and, like the film, has such a wonderful energy. Great cast that help the film to be so charming and sexy.

Nope. The missus and I both thought it was a terrible musical. Plot and tunes were rubbish.
The missus tried again last night (I went to bed instead) and she said it was even worse than she thought the first time around. Possibly the worst mainstream musical ever made.

Do you ever watch a film you enjoy, pauldy?

Christine-A really great performance by Rebecca Hall as Christine Chubbuck, a news reporter who committed suicide live on television. It's a difficult role to play but she's really sympathetic and compelling as this ambitious and intelligent yet really awkward and insecure woman who gradually unravels in a sexist working environment. Will be interested to watch Kate Plays Christine after this, has anyone seen both?

Just looked it up, I always confuse that and Mississippi Burning. First seen it when I was around 10-11, thought it was brilliant then. Will have to rewatch it sometime. Great film.

I, Daniel Blake Bloody hell what a film. Dark despite the odd laugh but what a great film. How this wasn't nomonated for a best film Oscar I just don't know. I love Ken Loach films even if you do feel like you have been run over by a truck by the end. 9/10

Having thought about this one I thought the last twenty minutes went a little bit over the top. Still liked it a lot.

I was rewatching Amour last night and I wake up to the news to Emmanuelle Riva passed away right when I was watching the movie. This would be weird with any movie but with this one especially it gave me goosebumps. I watched this youtube clip last night (starting at 4:19) and it just accentuated that feeling. It's just so fecking weird it's insane.

RIP

Damn. She was the lead actress in arguably the two finest films with 'Amour' in the title, her first and final (?) roles I think.

Watched that a couple of weeks back, she was fantastic.

XXX: Return of Xander Cage.
Mindless fun and action, which is what you want with a movie like this. Its just simple standard stuff, basically balls to the wall action, which is what i wanted and got, so enjoyed it.

Sing
Really enjoyed this. The animated characters are really likable, has a good story and some good laughs. Good choice of songs / covers in this too.

A colleague gave me her Netflix login. Am watchinh Human Centipede III. Will she know?
Maybe I'd be better off checking out Stranger Things or whatever. I might be wasting my time with this film.

What surprised you?
I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed it because I usually think a sequel ought to stand on its own, and T2 doesn't at all. It leans so heavily on the original but by fully embracing it and building the plot and theme around it you end up with an interesting self-aware movie about nostalgia - both the characters' and the audience's.

Friend Request.

When a college student unfriends a mysterious girl online, she finds herself fighting a demonic presence that wants to make her lonely by killing her closest friends.
This was much better than I was expecting, creepy music , decent story and a twist at the end I did not see coming.
Well worth a watch.

6/10

 F*cking hell, mate, you're a hero for watching stuff like that.
