Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

If you've never heard the lyrics to Everyday Is Like Sunday before then you've made quite a nice mental link there.

Trudging slowly over wet sand
Back to the bench where your clothes were stolen
This is the coastal town
That they forgot to close down
Armageddon, come Armageddon!
Come, Armageddon! Come!

Everyday is like Sunday
Everyday is silent and grey

Hide on the promenade
Etch a postcard :
"How I Dearly Wish I Was Not Here"
In the seaside town
That they forgot to bomb
Come, come, come, nuclear bomb

Everyday is like Sunday
Everyday is silent and grey

Trudging back over pebbles and sand
And a strange dust lands on your hands
(And on your face)
(On your face)
(On your face)
(On your face)

Everyday is like Sunday
"Win yourself a cheap tray"
Share some greased tea with me
Everyday is silent and grey
I knew there something in it! I know Morrisey is a fan of movies from that period so he might have watched that one at some point.

Silent Hill Revelation

Not played the game , not seen the first one and this does not make me want to change my mind.
There was a decent film in there somewhere, it was just not this one.

2/10
This first two games are brilliant. The first film, although not a masterpiece, was definitely better than the second one.

I'm finding myself to be attracted to Claire Forlani. Watched Green Street Hooligans again yesterday.

Fire at Sea - Really disliked this one. It's a documentary that juxtaposes the life on a remote Italian island with the migrant crisis, mostly following the banal exploits of a local kid with a lazy eye (obviously a metaphor). It had no insights whatsoever, the migrants were observed in a voyeuristic way whilst people on the island were mostly given names, personalities and so forth. There were a few affecting scenes but overall it was a really dull and lazy attempt, definitely a missed opportunity.

The Invitation | http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2400463/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Quite decent horror \ thriller movie. The whole dynamic between the group of people in the house was quite well done, and I liked Tom Hardy in it. A bit too obvious since I figured out what would go down about 10 minutes in, and they almost tried to hammer it in with all the small hints during the awkward exchanges between the people attending the dinner party.

Absolutely fecking loved it. It is a heist movie primarily, but also a character study of the main character and his struggles. The action, the drama, the acting - everything is well done. You can tell it is well made when you feel absolute hatred towards the bad guys and compassion for the victim during and after the movie. I strongly recommend watching this movie both if you want a more than decent decent heist movie, but especially if you want a terrific character driven movie.

8,5/10

I could watch her blink all day.

Wouldn't mind rewatching that film actually. I seem to remember it goes on for ages, but quite liking it.

It's not actually Tom Hardy in it scarily enough. They could be twins though.

Anyone seen Hunt For The Wilderpeople?

Loved it. Quirky, warm, funny, full of heart, gripping and kind of weird. Lovely to look at too. New Zealand really is a beautiful country. Recommended.

I did, because I loved the director's previous movie What We Do In The Shadows. Loved it, as well.

Bastard (2016)

Five strangers - newlywed serial killers, a suicidal cop, and two runaways - become suspect and victim when a masked murderer makes its presence known in an isolated mountain town.
A crazy messed up film , that has no real story, but a sack full of gore and a big rubber dildo !!
It wont be to everybody's taste, with a budget of $87,000 I have seen worse films.
If you like this sort of film, you should watch it, but not while eating.

5/10

Crush The Skull

A couple of master thieves find themselves trapped within a house they intended to rob, only to discover they've inadvertently wandered into the lair of a deranged serial killer.
Four of the worst burglars you will ever see.
A horror comedy that was actually OK, made me laugh and in a couple of places jump.
Plenty of blood and a twist I did not see coming and I should of done.

5/10

Feast of the Body.

When a mysterious man stops a world wide storm with the swipe of his hand, life as we know it changes, and the source of his divine power must be found before humanity self destructs.
1 hour 23 mins spent watching it and not a clue what is was about.

WTF/10

Eye In The Sky
A group of military and governmental officials must decide whether to bomb a known terrorist spot or not because an innocent girl is in the vicinity of the terrorists. Suspenseful and well acted but up until the final act, it was quite boring. I dont like watching films where the majority of it is spent looking at actors who are themselves looking at screens 5/10

Are you serious?

Yeah you are, he is named Logan Marshall Green.

Now that is a scary likeness both in appearance, voice and way of acting if I've ever seen one. I guess I would have spotted it without the cro-magnon beard and long hair, but with it? No chance.

Jason Bourne

Turned it off after half an hour of explosions and burning couches falling from the sky. Michael Bay/10

I actually found it quite distracting how much he looked like him.

He was in Prometheus aswell. Definately Hardy's brother from another mother.

There's a sort of a thrill for young kids when they're exposed to that dark stuff, though. Hence the tradition, presumably. I let my young lad watch all the Star Wars movies and was proud as punch when he preferred the more recent trilogy. He did say one of his favourite scenes of the whole lot was the young Darth Vader being horribly burned by lava, though.

heh heh heh

The Champ had me in tears as a kid, also Lassie and a couple of episodes of Black Beauty.

LaLa Land - the film opens with a flash mob singing and mugging on a busy LA freeway and I was already squirming but it won me back because Gosling and Stone are just so damn charming. After the first twenty minutes it's actually pretty light on songs (probably for the best, Gosling sounds like he took vocal lessons from Russel Crowe, although he plays the pianny pretty well).

Just noticed below you've already realised tom hardy wasn't in it, but yeah it was a similar looking man to be fair. It is obvious the twist but I think the way that scene kind of exploded with a couple of twists at the same time , it sped up very well I thought at that point from its slow start. a 7 I think Is far but for how the twist itself was delivered that one scene was a 9 to me, even though it was predictable.

Yeah I watched this after seeing what we do in the shadows and liking that enough, I thought this was much superior. Really good scenery, acting, light hearted sense of humour and share of touching moments, really really enjoyable film.

The spectacular now- A film about a budding alcoholic at high school at that cross roads between growing up and enjoying life, applying for colleges blah blah, it also has shailene Woodley in it with an incredibly touching performance. Its a short film which makes no compromises and really doesn't attempt at all to be upbeat out of all the recent American coming of age or slightly depressing teen films such as fault in our stars, me earl and the dying girl, perks of being a wallflower, and probably paper towns but I haven't and never will watch that film this one is by far the best. 90 minutes long and was gutted when it ended, wanted to see more of the characters, actors, story etc but will 100% be watching again very soon 8.7/10

Weiner is an excellent, excellent documentary. Poor Huma. :(

The first five minutes were painful, but it's brilliant after that. Probably my film of the year.
