Television The QI Thread

He's a nice man, but just isn't funny in any way whatsoever.

Agree. I go to the Comedy Store every now and then and he performs there occasionally, he was the only known name on the bill but was the worst by a mile. Still, he seemed really nice at the bar afterwards.

This might sound snobby, but I only really like the cleverer guests on QI who can be funny and interesting.

Although I'm fans of them on other shows, acts like Sean Locke, Lee Mack and Johnny Vegas just irritate me on QI. They offer nothing except "look how thick I'm making myself out to be!" We already have Alan Davies covering that base.

And yeah, Jo Brand is colosally dull.

Just seen an episode with Brian Cox in it, and it was one of the best I've seen. He is great on it.

watching the new episode now, it's online...

I read the book recently and it was great. Touched on a lot stuff the show mentioned. Recommend it.

The QI facts one? I thought it was a bit meh, if it's the same book. 1000's of fact snippets, but few that interesting and none explained.

And don't they get a lot of things wrong? In a recent General thread about iSparky (I think) getting stung, I used a Qi fact about bees and wasps which was backed up by a bee keeper, yet looking around online and going by some of the reactions in there it seems that might be wrong and in doing that little bit of research it seem Qi's facts aren't always very well researched.

I still like it though. Stephen Fry is a top bloke too, I've met him a few times and he's always a gent.

Biology student here. Which fact were you talking about? QI is more general with facts and that's very common when explaining in layman's terms how things work. The biology field loves the layman's term (aside from publishing papers and stuff like that).

It is annoying when they get things wrong. In there was one thing they need to improve on its stressing the difference between a theory and a recognised fact. Although, scientifically speaking a theory doesn't mean what I'm using it for, and facts are used in history, not science. Still you get what I mean.

And Johnny Vegas too what the hell are they doing booking those guys on there

I stopped watching it when Stephen Fry left. Is it worth catching up?

Sandi is a very good host. She works very well with Alan and I'd also go as far to say I prefer her over Fry, because she looks like she genuinely enjoys hosting it. There are many moments where she has uncontrollable laughter (particularly after a joke from Alan) and it really highlights the good chemistry between them.

I do think at times it can go a bit stale, but having said that, I've really enjoyed Season V, perhaps more so than the previous ones. All of the XL ones are up on iPlayer right now for that season. There is a new episode tonight as well.

Is this a reply to a half decade old question or have some inexplicably controversial QI related posts been deleted?

Went downhill when they resorted to hiring the identikit "comedians" from every other panel show. Toksvig puts in a decent shift but Fry was irreplaceable.

It was a reply yes, but also a comment that I am actually enjoying the most recent season compared to the previous ones which felt stale.
