This will probably never take off, but meh.

Basically post all the random/weird (quite interesting) facts revealed on QI.

1. During the sinking of the Titanic, the first thing that happened to crew was to stop their wages. As soon as a ship starts sinking, it is no longer deemed a ship, and therefore you can no longer be working on it. Apparently.

2. British shoe sizes are measured in barleycorns.

3. Coconuts kill about 150 people a year - 10 times more people than sharks.

Admittedly I am struggling to think of any funny ones, but it's still a brilliant show.

The toxic dose for chocolate for an adult is something like 6 kilos.

is it scripted ?
partly , completely .. any idea

I imagine partly. Most comedy panel shows are in one way or another. Most of the time it just seems that they get told some of the questions before hand so they can get some material for an 'answer'.

I read in one of Jeremy Clarkson's books that when he presented have i got news for you, Merton and Hislop would be shown the photo's for the caption contest before the recording so that they could come up with something witty. I'd imagine most of the segments are planned like this in order to get the best material prepared in most shows

i expected it to be partly scripted .. they have a show to make

was hoping the little bits where they stray slightly away from the topic and come up with random facts wasnt scripted

if the whole show is scripted then i'll be slightly disappointed .. still a brilliant show

When a flea jumps, its rate of acceleration is twenty times that of a space shuttle during launch.

In relation to their size, the earwig has the largest penis in the natural world

Kelloggs corn flakes were originally designed to discourage masturbation

Why do they only give an auto-que to the presenter?

The presenter has a ton more to say (especially on QI) than the guests and needs to keep the flow of the show going. There might not be an actual physical "script" for them but they know what the questions are going to be and what their answers will be.

The guests are given the questions in advance and talk with the shows writers about their answers.

Have you ever seen "Rob Brydons Annually Retentive"? That shows pretty much excactly how all of these panel shows are done.

Went to the staff party last night. Good laugh, failed miserably to crack on to several foreign waitresses, spread my desire to re-introduce the word Bangerang into popular culture amongst the rich and famous and stole a canvas...

Bangerang.

I have the first 6 seasons on my harddrive but I've not watched them... Stephen Fry is fecking awesome though.

You wouldn't happen to remember where you got this from, do you? So that I can spread the word to unsuspecting people who might accidently stray to such sites/torrents and get themselves in trouble.

Pretty sure QI is not scripted, I think Stephen said that he was annoyed that one regular guest insisted on getting the questions beforehand. Obviously Stephen has parts scripted where he explains the answers and he can also communicate with the "elves".

You're right, I started a thread on here a while back on that very subject trying to guess who the offending panelist was!

So, what did you guys think of the Japan controversy? I didn't see anything wrong with it to be honest. There was nothing that offensive about any of their comments.

If anything I thought they voiced admiration for Japan and the man in question. I really don't see what all the fuss is about (aside from the fact that the subject matter was of a collosal tragedy/war crime whatever you want to call it).

I don't think it's scripted, they just film for about 3 times as long as the actual show to make sure they get enough material.

Did anyone see this week's episode? A fecking ventriloquist? I swear the television stations are headed by former Butlins redcoats.

Yeah it was terrible. She wasn't even good, you could see her mouth moving. None of the others guests got a word in edgeways.

What's wrong with Jo Brand?

But yeah the ventriloquist was cringey. Still, she was pretty and got better as she went along. Pussyhound saved the episode.

It was painfully embarrassing, I had to turn off after ten minutes because it was too much for me. Frankly she made Jo Brand look funny by comparison.

I quite like Jo Brand, but completely agree with you about whoever this woman was. Whenever there was a stilted silence she'd just make that 'Gran' thing make some crude comment in the hope everyone still loves a bit of toilet humour in any situation.

I stuck around because I enjoy the general ignorance round best, and we just had it on in the background, but it never really picked up. Hopefully she won't be asked back or start working the panel show circuit.
