The Overlap | Clattenburg: United Mind Games, Liverpool Bust Ups & Forest Exit! The Overlap Fan Debate

He's such an arrogant prick. I did like the Pique/Thiago story, and to his credit he did say it was Colina the legend who told him

fecking hell Sol and Clattenberg in B2B weeks, gonna be another tough listen...

Not sure what everyone is talking about. It's always great to hear a referee recount all the really cool and tough things they've said to players. Goosebumps

+1

Managed 10 mins of Sol before I had to turn it off. A painfully awkward, difficult, conflict searching man. There a reason we don’t seem him as a pundit…anywhere.

No interest in clattenburg either.

Clattemburg's proper cringe.
The first thing i thought trying to listen to this, his whole appointment doesnt make sense, if Forest owner wanted insight on football i'd have thought he wouldnt have employed an ex ref. I can't tell if he was trying to put some kind of meaning behind his appointment, bend the truth, or he sees how ridiculous his employment was.

Haven't listened yet, but Neville is going to be unbearable to listen to, isn't he.

I can't be the only person confused about how much attention Alexander-Arnold gets, surely. I wonder if there's an Overlap where he doesn't get a single mention.

Carragher might be the most sensitive person ever. So funny watching him get offended and then shows his true colours trying to go in on united.

Can easily see why he ended up spitting on a child.

His hard-on for Foden is worse. Been trash for England over and over again but Gary is still holding his lighter in the air for him.

Yeah bizarre how much he loves him. I think Foden obviously should be in the squad, but done nowhere near enough to build the team around or guarantee a place.

Was pretty good, great to see Keane's soft side. Carragher's bias over Liverpool was a bit frustrating as ever.

Neville on Foden is another example of him just being stubborn and not prepared to change his mind and got rightly called out.

Would love an episode with Brain Kidd, he's obviously worked closely with Gary & Roy, but also watching the Babes, playing under Sir Matt, working with Fergie and the fallout from that, working alongside Pep and the difference between modern football compared to when he started.

Wow. I found myself rooting for Gary Neville for the first time since he pulled on a United shirt. Carragh attacked everything he said like he'd had two pints after work and no tea.

Neville was talking nonsense, Foden has been a complete flop for England. He’s the current POTY and has been pretty rubbish for his club too but has barely had any scrutiny.

He just isn't a podcast guy is he. Pointless episode.
I like their podcast but I don't like when they bring non football guests to their podcast. It's supposed to be a football podcast and no one outside of the UK has even heard of Luke Littler.

Instead of bringing Littler, they could bring people Cantona, Sir Alex or Henry. Cantona and Sir Alex would truly break internet, not to mention Ronaldo.

I like Littler and agreed, but he's also only 18, think that has to be taken into account when getting guests on stuff like this too.
Yeah, I feel bad for saying it since he's only 18 but he's been on enough stuff now to realise that he doesn't really say anything and is super awkward in these sit down convos.

Yikes that was awful. I’m a Littler fan and it’s a bit disappointing his attitude seems to be drifting in terms of the darts there was a lot of ‘if I can be bothered’ and ‘it’s about the money’ type of answers at 18 if he’s losing motivation then….

Thought that was one of the worst episodes in general he’s a young lad bud damn he’s not exactly interview material is he

Yeah and I thought Neville was wrong about almost everything. Carragher was absolutely seething, clearly about something else. "Well done you've made your little face for the social media viral post" what a pissy cnut.

Everyone at the table must want to slap (or spit on) him when he's on that kind of mood.

Enjoying this one so far. Decent discussions.

Really like the bit where they pick up on how football has changed since they played to now - From c. 40 mins. Neville goes into a piece where he looks at most passes in the league from when he played until now. When he played it was mostly DMs or playmakers that had the most passes compared to now where it's mostly CBs and fullbacks.

40 minutes in - excellent discussion on the problem of football's entertainment value and the issue of playing out of the back. Neville makes some really good points without sounding like a dinosaur, which is what he usually does on this topic.

Really interesting take about the type of players that were making the most passes in Neville's last 5 years in contrast to who has touched the ball the most in the last 5 years. Some of the names really shocked me. But he's absolutely right. Football suffers if Lewis Dunk is one of the five players with the most passes in the league.

Ian Wright:

"When we came up with Palace and we were losing 9-0 at Anfield, I couldn't see the ball through the tears, I couldn't see the ball because I was welling up."

Made me laugh so hard
