The number 1 attribute we need in a new manager

We need players who
1. Work hard and have physical ability to outrun and outwork most other teams. This needs to be non-negotiable attribute. We have collected most players made out of glass who break every other game and cannot be asked to train or run. We compete in EPL, physical ability is a necessity here
2. Do basics reliably - passing, holding ball, pressing
3. We need very few world-class players, at this stage of development. You don't assemble a good team, right after a total rebuild, with star players. It bring too many clashing egos, is too risky, and we don't have money for it anyway. Only City, Barcelona, or Real Madrid can afford to have all-star teams. We need good, reliable players with handful of top talent, not too many. You can see how Solanke is more useful than Rashford.
4. Players who live and breath with football. Social media superstars not welcome in this club

And then you can get any decent manager (at the level of Unai Emery, Ange, or even Thomas Frank) to make a fighting team out of such good squad. That should give us a team that plays attacking style, can reliably make top 4 and will usually progress from Champions League group stage. Only after we achieve that, can we start building a team that can win EPL or UCL.

I couldn't care less about developing players as long as we have a way of playing and purchase players that work within that framework. is the ability to develop players(especially young players). Our future is in the hands of Mainoo, Rasmus, Garnacho. If these three continue to improve and develop then we have a chance. If we are relying on the senior players to carry this team into the future we are fecked. Of course recruitment will also be key and I could see an argument that talent recognition might be equally important.

Above a winning past, tactics or personality, I think player development is the key thing INEOS should look at when replacing ETH this summer who is pretty much a dead man walking.

Both of these roads lead to De Zerbi imho. Listening to what former players and other managers say about him, he has the positional system drilled into players down to the millimeter, and he improves players. Kevin Boateng, who played under a lot of managers, said De Zerbi was the best and improved him the most.

We should pack the coaching department with the best young modern coaches, preferably low profile. Make one of them head of first team coaching reporting to the manager. Manager remains ultimately responsible for first team performance. DoF works alongside manager to direct and be responsible for implementing recruitment of all players and coaches and for getting structure and infrastructure right.

Clearly one guy cannot do it all but the guy doing the post-match interviews and carrying the can for the inevitable failure should be the guy who has made most of the key decisions leading to the quality of players on the pitch and how well they perform. This is above the pay grade of a coach.

id say if there will be massive teething issues with the problematic squad ( a mish mash of players on large wages we cant move on) and will the manager get the support they need in terms of transfers?

if there was a factor rather than an attribute our manager needs to be fortunate. fortunate in a number of areas (transfers in and out, patience from fans, injuries)

Ancelotti's league history isn't great. Klopp scraped 4th twice in his first 3 seasons. 1 point ahead of 5th. Nothing easy about it. World transfer record for a defender that season as well. It did take that kind of money guided by professionals to help achieve the right players and it took time, managing to challenge for the title in their 4th season.
In those 4 seasons the most stable team was Spurs. Rest of the top was a yoyo mess. City stabilized with Pep obviously.

I imagine Klopp could do it in two seasons but not guaranteed no. Pep probably would but he's always had a very strong foundation to build his teams on, a team with winners. Not sure if his erratic personality would work with subpar mentality that our players possess. Him taking over SAF however and I could have seen him win retain the title rather than obliterating the club like Moyes did.

Someone with a principle that sticks with his beliefs and doesnt compromise for the big name players if they dont perform and put half assed contribution in, then drop them for players who do perform how he wants.
Dropping a player for a game then still get the same shit when put back in, then drop them for the next 3 games at least. Still dont perform after that then look at selling and put them on the transfer list. Show who is the boss.
Of course the DOF has to be onboard with this, but surely thats a discussion the next manager has with Ashworth, (or whoever is covering for him, if its before he is in post), so he knows if he is being backed before he starts.

But honestly, I would welcome a good tactical coach. Seems like the only good tactician we had in the last 15 years was LvG, but the fanbase thought we should go from A to Z in one season so he was sacked despite laying good foundations in place.

In reality, we should go for all-round manager as this squad isn't easy to manage.

Mourinho could control matches but not as much as yesteryear. Van Gaal did too but it would put you to sleep. Ole's teams could attack but we were rarely in control of matches.

Solid base, controlled midfield and exciting attacking players to watch. It's not rocket science and it's something we haven't had in 11 years.
