The New Official Republic of Ireland Football Thread

Regardless of the result. Proud of the team. Didn't get smashed like we all expected. If only we had a team full of good players. We'd get pretty far.

A plucky loss was always going to OK. We played well and fought hard. You cant have any complaints considering the gulf in class.

I'm expecting to see this ref in the PL next week after this performance.

Was competitive against one of the worlds best sides. A pity the only goal came from a wayward pass. I don't think Lloris would have saved those two late headers

Really got to be in for Camavinga if he ever wants to leave Madrid.

Future is bright, so many young players. We need them to be playing regularly in the premier league but quite a few of them look like they can make that move up

extremely encouraging

Didn't feel like a lost. Played like hell. Oh why did we have to have a group like that. Fecking bs.

Typical France really..more often than not squeeze something out that wasn't particularly impressive.

Ireland played very well and really should have got something. I think it's only the belief that they could really get a result that let them down. In the final moments just fluffing the lines.

Great game, best the Irish have played in years. Ref gave France everything. I've read this story before.

Great performance- could (dare I say should?) have gotten something out of that game. Ogbene MOTM. Molumby, Collins and Coleman were great too.

If we had Camavinga, we'd have won that.

And with my Man United hat on, it's a bit disillusioning to see us being linked with a 70 million move for Costa (who was shocking for Portugal in the WC) and not to Maignan (who may well have won France the WC had Deschamps not been overly besotted with Lloris).

Onwards and upwards I suppose.

Great performance. Unlucky to not get a draw at least against a very good French side. I'm positive we'll get through.

What an absolute sickener. Couldn't have done more the players or Kenny. To see the French surrounding Maignon at the end, I mean they know they were in a game tonight. Look, the Greek game was always going to be the more significant. We must be going there with real belief.

Even just a couple. Add in a Robbie Keane, a Damien Duff and a Wes Hoolahan and we might just have enough spark and finishing quality to win some of these games. Unfortunately a moral victory is as good as it gets this days. If only we had someone like Kenny during the Trappatoni era, what a waste of talent that was.

I've noticed a lot of people hyping up Costa but who has actually seen him play consistently ?
