The New low (I.) Q. Republicans and Ted Cruz

Americans aren't adult enough to run with 2 political parties. They've always been polarizing but it reached its zenith when they elected the twice impeached one.

Everything is party lines, no matter how bad what they're voting on.

He even fecked up the name of the medal.

She's just trolling, and succeeding. She knows it will rile the libs and also appeal to her base. She also knows it will get her loads of press.

It's straight out of Trump's playbook. Ted Cruz now spends his life trolling on Twitter. The sooner everyone learns to just ignore these clowns the sooner they would go away. The trouble is, everyone likes to be offended or outraged so they all keep fueling the fire they so badly want to extinguish.

Ignoring them would be the worst thing you could do to them.

100% agree. I, and many I know, did that exact thing with Trump in 2014-15, ignored and laughed him off thinking no way he would win more than 2% of the Republican primary and look what happened. This from a speech given at the National Conservative Convention.

"Bovard (Rachel Bovard. Senior Director of Policy at the Conservative Partnership Institute) has the place rocking, training her sights on the true enemies, the left-wing elite: a “totalitarian cult of billionaires and bureaucrats, of privilege perpetuated by bullying, empowered by the most sophisticated surveillance and communications technologies in history, and limited only by the scruples of people who arrest rape victims’ fathers, declare math to be white supremacist, finance ethnic cleansing in western China, and who partied, a mile high, on Jeffrey Epstein’s Lolita Express.

The atmosphere is electric. She’s giving the best synopsis of national conservatism I’ve heard at the conference we’re attending—and with flair! Progressives pretend to be the oppressed ones, she tells the crowd, “but in reality, it’s just an old boys’ club, another frat house for entitled rich kids contrived to perpetuate their unearned privilege. It’s Skull and Bones for gender-studies majors!” She finishes to a rousing ovation. People leap to their feet.

I have the sinking sensation that the thunderous sound I’m hearing is the future of the Republican Party.”

And echoed by Republican Senators:
"The idea that the left controls absolutely everything—from your smartphone to the money supply to your third grader’s curriculum—explains the apocalyptic tone that was the dominating emotional register of this conference. The politicians’ speeches were like entries in the catastrophism Olympics:

“The left’s ambition is to create a world beyond belonging,” said Hawley. “Their grand ambition is to deconstruct the United States of America.”

“The left’s attack is on America. The left hates America,” said Cruz. “It is the left that is trying to use culture as a tool to destroy America.”

“We are confronted now by a systematic effort to dismantle our society, our traditions, our economy, and our way of life,” said Rubio."

As absurd as it seems to characterize people that simply want fair and equal treatment under the law and other institutions for all minorities as hating America and trying to destroy America, this is where we are now. They glorify an outdated and idealized view of America that, historically, heavily favored the white male, the wealthier the better. They even shout down classic conservatives (classic liberals):

"Some of the speakers at the conference were in fact classical liberals, who believe in free speech, intellectual debate, and neutral government...
But others argued that this sort of liberalism is a luxury we cannot afford. The country is under assault from a Marxist oligarchy that wants to impose its own pseudo-religious doctrine. If you try to repulse that with pallid liberalism, with weak calls for free speech and tolerance, you’ll end up getting run over by those who possess fanatical zeal, economic power, and cultural might..."

"This is national conservatism pursued to its logical conclusion: using state power to break up and humble the big corporations and to push back against coastal cultural values. The culture war merges with the economic-class war—and a new right emerges in which an intellectual cadre, the national conservatives, rallies the proletarian masses against the cultural/corporate elites. All your grandparents’ political categories get scrambled along the way."

I can understand why Europeans like @langster roll their eyes and say we should ignore this stuff but I think it's past that point where we can just ignore and wait for it to go away. Just look at the Arbery trial, without video, those guys would not even have been charged. The biggest conservative host on Fox released a documentary claiming the Jan.6 riots were staged and a honeypot for the left coalition to just jail "patriots."

The only thing to do is speak out against this stuff where we can and hope to change the minds of undecideds where possible. Those that care about the truth can't let this go unanswered, as hopeless as America seems these days.

America is pretty hopeless if you only consider the loud minorities. There’s still a bunch of good folk around but the assholes are doing a good job of trying every reasonable persons patience.

I suppose what I meant was not to engage them on Twitter and such when they’re clearly trolling. Such as when Cancun Ted tweets that Cancun is better than Cabo (TX vs CA) then that should be ignored. Or if they’re calling for Kylie rottenhouse to get the “Medal of Honor”.
I don’t mean they should be ignored on serious issues.

edit; I see autocorrect has done a job in my post. I’ll leave it.

Sadly it's gone beyond just loud minorities. Or rather, they're very large minorities. Most Republican voters fully believe that the election was stolen from Donald Trump. That's doubly scary when it was Donald Trump who was actually trying to steal an election, and the GOP who are trying to and succeeding in subverting democracy (Gerrymandering, stricter election laws, and so on). The Dems are also Gerrymandering, but to a much lesser degree.

And it's easy to imagine what happens when people genuinely believe that the other side is trying to steal an election, that democracy has failed. It makes them much more likely to accept undemocratic moves from their own side.

Much like that pic of MTG at the airport peacefully complying with their mask mandate, I'd imagine they're 'all hat and no cattle' in that they'll cry out about this when they know a camera's on them, but turn to meek little door-mice when in their actual presence.

That said, even saying that in public should be worth a censure.

Don't forget about this guy....

Her seat went from R+6 to R+15.

She's not leaving unless she gets primaried.

You'd think if Mitch McConnell wants to take back the power in the GOP, he'll want to get rid of as many Trump wannabes as he can. He used Trump as a useful idiot to get his policies and judges in, but he must hate the GQP faction which is far too unpredictable. There's no money to be made in people like this, so I'm sure a lot of money will go into primarys vs MTG, Boebert, Cawthorne, etc. To let Trump know his influence in the party is waning

Genghis Khan?
If you want a serious answer, there is a GOP candidate that wants to do away with MTG's nonsense in congress.

But this is a R+45 district so removing her in a primary doesn't mean much anyways, just replace that crazy Q supporter with a generic GOP candidate.

Seeing the likes of Murkowski, Cheney being censured and purged from their own party in their home states suggests to me that GOP as a whole is going to finally embrace Trumpism one way or the other for the worse. And since I mentioned Cheney as one of Trump's fiercest opponents within her own party, her approval ratings stand at 20s and is surely going to be primaried.

I would say the opposite in earlier years, but in this political climate I'm not sure if McConnell has much of a political capital as he used to.

Also funny you mention Cawthorne, because he actually beat a Trump endorsed candidate, yet is arguably even more right of him. (and is pro-Trump himself)

Combine that with the currently R+3 generic congressional ballot (as of this post) along with redistrcting to give them few more seats (but the more important thing for them is erasing tossup districts) and you have a recipe for disaster.

Cawthorne strikes me as an intelligent bloke and this charade by him is to cater to the fringes and lesser far rights, including all his lies about his life and accident which garnered empathy from people. Or he's quite possibly a psychopath.

Is he the guy who lets it be implied that he's a disabled veteran, when actually he never got into the military in the first place and he crashed his truck? Or something?
Trevor Noah did a segment on Cawthorne. He's a lunatic.
