The New Kits Thread

For all the obvious jokes, it's still better than what we got.

I prefer both of our away kits next season thank you very much. That thing is like a fecking diving suit.

Agreed that their home kit is much better than ours this season.

Don't get the love for the Liverpool home, saw it in JJB the other day and it's pretty grim looking. No better than our home in my opinion.

I disagree. Theirs is a good looking home kit. Ours is the cheapest, tackiest looking shirt we've ever had.

I'm in complete agreement that ours is shit, but theirs is bloody awful too. It's a strange red with strange yellow writing. I really don't see the love for it, its shocking looking.

I don't get what you find awful about it. No daft trim or patterns, a nicely made, classic design complete with the crest from back when they actually won stuff. It's about as good as a Liverpool kit can get. It also looks like it cost more than 30p to produce unlike ours.

Whilst I don't think ours is ever going to go down as a great united shirt, it's far better than it looked on screen.

The Liverpool one actually looks far worse in person though! On screen I'm loathed to admit their home shirt had a nice classic design feel to it, but up close it looks cheap, and far cheaper than our gingham design too IMO.

From a fabric perspective - their is no comparison between ours and Liverpool's. Theirs looks incredibly cheap up close, whereas technically ours is very good. The design might not be to everyones/manys taste, but would much rather play a game of football in ours than theirs.

And that Liverpool away shirt is shocking.

But - as you know - what the players wear and what you buy in the shops are very different items. Some of the players shirts are blends of recycled polyester and organic cotton and have a very nice soft feel to them. The things they sell to the public might be "technically very good" but they still feel and look very cheap.

Yeah, what these other guys have said. Liverpool's home may look kind of ok in picture but in real life it's terrible looking, reallly cheap and tacky looking. I wouldn't be happy if I was a kop twat.

Both Welsh clubs are trying their hardest to raise their national identity it seems, hell Cardiff are even making red their home colours now.

Yeah, but even the greatest kit the world has ever seen wouldn't change that.

New Cardiff home and away and new crest

Surely they could have spent more than five minutes designing that crest. It's painful to look at.

Here's the part of their statement that covers the kit and crest change:

“Concerning the commitment to developing the crest and to switch our primary colour to red, as directors - and as fans in our own right - we recognise that there is a history and commitment that goes with supporting Cardiff City and we are conscious and proud of the loyalty, bond and passion so many share for this club.

“At the same time, we also have to be prepared to be realistic and progressive. Sometimes in difficult economic times and challenging market conditions, in order to attract investment to survive and progress, brave, bold and compelling decisions and sacrifices need to be taken and made. By securing this investment we can safeguard the immediate and long term future of this club.

“The changes to the home kit and badge introduced as a consequence of the investment package are designed to help the club to develop its brand and to allow it to expand its appeal to as wide an audience as possible, with a view to delivering local success via an international and diverse market. As a board, we believe these changes, in the light of the benefits that will be demonstrably delivered, have been or will be accepted by the vast majority of supporters as judged in the light of the numerous emails and letters of support, backed by recent poll results from the Supporters Club and Media Wales.

“We are only too aware that the change of colour is a radical and some would say revolutionary move which will be met with unease and apprehension by a number of supporters, along with being seen as controversial by many. To those I would like to say that this was not a decision that has been taken lightly or without a great deal of thought and debate. There is no getting away from the fact that history and traditions are the lifeblood of any club and as such should be jealously guarded and preserved. Both the board and our investors fully understand and respect this and will do their utmost to uphold, protect and promote the values and virtues which the club stands for.

“However, the changes are believed to be vital to enable the club to progress to the next stage in its development and very much in the club’s best long term interests. Judged in the context of the overall commitment and financial support, we believe it is the right decision for this club and where it currently stands. We hope that all supporters will appreciate these sentiments and will embrace the changes in that spirit and continue to support the club in the same loyal and passionate manner as before but hopefully with some greater feeling of security. ”

It was, but now it's "The Red Dragons" presumably to try and appeal to

A) The Far East
B) The Welsh national identity, same as Swansea who have basicially turned their away kit into the Wales home kit.

Any leaked pictures of our away kit?

Decorativeed posted a template of what it might look like, and it's pretty much like this one in the video. The third kit will be the blue kit from this season.

They haven't said why the hell they think anyone in Asia would give a shite about Cardiff City no matter what colour they wear though. Given that there are three successful clubs in the Premier League who wear red and all, you'd have thought that any Asian fans who picked a football club based purely on the colour of their shirts would have made their choice from one of those already.

Thank you Lynk, the away kit looks ok-ish, better than the home kit at least. I like blue away kits though.

Chinese are always big on color, year of dragon/monkey and what not. The superstitious lot have been known to outlaw certain numbers of vehicle registration plates, so it's just not a matter of picking a color which may attract viewers.

Think you are recalling something similar to what I posted about Japan in the "Number 7 shirt" thread, rather than the Chinese.

Ahh the chinese, a great bunch of lads

I'm not sure I read that thread Ed (is that right, your name Ed?) but I believe these things happen a lot in China as well. One of our corporate offices in China opened up recently and our colleagues sent a memo of their experience.

New offices always open up with gates facing certain sides, first meal in a new house with a particular traditional dish etc etc.. Of course, I've never been to China, but I can only tell you what I've heard.

It is indeed. It also looks like they just plonked the bluebird in at the last minute aswell.

Nah, my name's Tim, but I don't mind Ed on here. You are right about odd superstitions across much of Asia, but I couldn't find anything out about number plates in China, it's true in Japan though.

No, turns out you are right and it's very similar to the Japanese thing - both Japanese and Mandarin words for "four" are almost identical to their words for "death". "Shi" in Japanese and "si" in Mandarin.

Silly sods.

Would be hilarious if every single fan went out and bought the new blue away shirt and not 1 person anywhere bought the red

I think you will find that the away kit will more popular. It will interesting in the first game. The blue kit will dominate the home end.

It will be a different kettle of fish to our Fans Green and Gold attempt.

It's not completely unusual or a "modern" thing though, is it? Newton Heath changed their colours three or four times even before switching to the red shirts of United (and we even changed them twice since).

Leeds ditched their traditional blue and yellow for white in the 60s, around the same time as Coventry ditched their white kits for sky blue. Older Crystal Palace fans have probably lost count of the amount of times their home colours have changed. Bigger clubs than Cardiff have done it and seen an upturn in fortune.

Has anybody seen this, the new Parma shirt, it has every season ticket holder's name on it.
