The Masters 2011

If McIlroy has another good day, shooting a -3 or -4 lets say, then he could be really difficult to stop on this course.

I alway find people get carried away with those leading on the 1st couple of days. Given the weather forecast for the weekend anyone who's evens or better at the end of today (if that makes the cut) is in with a shout. 20mph winds on Sunday on sunburnt greens will make for one of golfs toughest challenges.

Yeah, I laid McIlroy when he was blazing away in the open last year, he's bit too long for comfort right now.

Yes, but then again McIlroy is far far more talented than then most.
Also, they are using for the first time that you system where they can replicate any type of Golf course conditions they want so that sunburnt greens might not be such an issue anymore.

Only heard the extend of the system they have there recently, I still think no matter what automated system they have under the greens the physical wear and tear of the crowds really does impact on the course. remember D. Johnston when he lost the PGA championship...

Quiros was written off due to his putting and previous performances. Delighted for him as his driving has been world class for years now...

Wasn't it in Dubai earlier this year where McIlroy jumped out to an early lead only to shoot in the mid 70s on Saturday and Sunday? I'm optimistic for him (he's one of the only Euros I like) but cautiously so.

Poulter's 3 under through 3 today.

The system of course will only work in dry conditions. If it starts raining then the system becomes useless.
The weather forecast is for dry and hot conditions so it should work this weekend for the first time (they've had the system for the past 2 years but couldn't use it because of the wet conditions).

People seem to forget that McIlroy is only 21. By the time he is 30 I think he'll already have won multiple majors.

I think that's a given. I'd love to see him win this weekend, same age Tiger was when he won at Augusta the first time.

YE Yang -2 on his round early today, in a tie for the lead now.

Ricky Barnes within a shot of the lead now as well. Never really rated him all that highly but he's doing well so far.

McIlroy needs to get a little more consistent and he'll start winning a lot sooner than later. Even at Quail Hollow, he was one stroke away from being cut only to shoot 66-62 on the weekend. He had the 36 hole lead in Dubai this year and shot 75-74 on the weekend to finish in a 5-way tie for 10th. If he can start playing his best for all 4 rounds, he could be really special.

i remember seeing articles on the local news about him when he was about 15 years old, they were predicting big things for him then. His parents had turned their garden into a minature goal course to help him

McIlroy was quite inconsistent as a kid, he's really found himself now though. He's always had unbelievable talent, but composure's been an issue - one good round, one terrible round. Let's hope he gets through 4 rounds without shooting an 80 or something.

Rory with a solid start so far, Fowler also making moves with a few birdies - bright futures ahead for both these players.

What a showing on the back 9! 9 birdies for the day and really hit some shots that remind you of 2000 Tiger. The approach on 18 was fantastic. I'd absolutely love a Tiger-Rory pairing on Sunday.

Tiger was majestic but recently he's not managed to have good back-to-back rounds - will be interesting how he plays the next couple of days.

A banner at the top of bbc news website is telling me that Sammy McIlroy is apparetly leading the Masters. Interesting...

Everyone near the top having a pretty off day today, tomorrow's shaping up to be pretty exciting. Really disappointing rounds from Day and Tiger.

McIlroy currently has a 3 shot lead over 4 players - you have to feel like he's got it in his hands. Even without going low, he's under par today. I like his chances if he manages even a -1 tomorrow.

Tiger bogeys 18, goes to -5 and is effectively out of the running. 71-66-74? Guess he's not quite back.

Tiger's putting has been really poor for his standards, too far behind to win imo

Solid round from McIlroy, 4 shot lead is a nice cushion to have. Cabrera had a great round, I think he'll be playing with Rory tomorrow.

Don't look now but Tiger's 2 under through 3 today. He probably needs at least a 63 to have a chance today if Rory does anything but completely falls apart.

Tiger with 2 birdies in the first 3 holes, now on -7.

Rory will tee off in about 20 mins, hopefully he'll be able to win - the start will be important & I just hope he doesn't implode like Dustin Johnson did at the US Open last year.

And he catches the lip of the bunker on his second shot. Not looking good early.

Finds the front bunker with his third shot. Nasty shot coming up. C'mon Rory!
