The Lionesses: Qualified for Euro '25 | Nations League

All too easy - shame we didn't have these goals flowing when it mattered in those matches Vs Belgium & Holland

Draw for Euro '25 qualifying takes place next week

Group of Death for The Lionesses in Euro 2025 qualifying - France just reached the Nation's League Final and Sweden were World Cup semifinalists last year, Irish ladies in there too

Top 2 qualify and there is still even a chance for 3rd placed teams in play offs so the Lionesses will surely be there to defend their trophy

It's a hell of a group. According to FIFA rankings the 3rd, 4th, 5th best teams in the world. Ireland have definitely not had the luck of the draw here :smirk:

Just for completeness:
Group A1: Netherlands, Italy, Norway, Finland
Group A2: Spain, Denmark, Belgium, Czech Rep
Group A3: France, England, Sweden, Rep of Ireland
Group A4: Germany, Austria, Iceland, Poland

Top two in each A group qualify. The other Group A teams go to the playoffs.

They're joined in the playoffs by 12 teams from the Group B leagues (Wales, Scotland, NI are in the B groups) and 8 from Group Cs. It's a seeded playoff system. A total of 7 teams go through from the playoffs.

Couldn’t have been a much tougher group but I fancy England to do well enough to finish top two.

The playing schedule is brutal as well:

I've really got no idea how the players are supposed to get decent summer breaks with an international schedule like that.

It's a crazy qualifying system with too many games - going through a whole set of group games but not actually knocking any teams out seems pointless

Group of Death kicks off at 8pm - pretty mad that Grace Clinton (on loan from United to Spurs) is preferred to Toone and our captain Zelem can't even make the squad !

Yeah, not sure about why that is.

Mood in the ground is pretty good, plenty of Swedish fans knocking around being pleasant.

Toone not had a great season TBF and Zelem has always been on the fringes of the team

Disappointing for our Lionesses at the moment with Le Tissier also left out

Clinton will get her chance at United next season I assume

Let’s hope so. Depending on who the manager is.

United Women overall have had a hugely disappointing season but Toone has actually been one of the better performers in our last few matches.

Ireland starting terribly, interestingly two Cascarino twin sisters playing for France. One starter and one on the bench.

Very lucky not to be behind here - really have to win the home games as qualification is far from a cert in this group

Sweden easily have a better shape and composure.

The equaliser came because the ball went out for a throw and they have had 3 or 4 warming up the whole game and for the throw it hit one of them and they got the ball straight back in and we slept. I was screming at them to look as it happened

We just don't have the punch through the middle. It's relying on our wide play and flair all the time.

Just had a look at England’s qualifying group and it seems utterly bizarre that you’d have the second, third and sixth best teams in the world in the same group, with only two able to go through. The whole qualifying system makes no sense at all. That seems to be a running theme with women’s football tournaments.

It is a ridiculously difficult group and a convoluted qualification system, but in fact even the 3rd & 4th place teams in this group will go into the playoffs for 7 more Euros spots

There is some method to the madness as it's all based on the Nation's League groupings and aims to make sure every game is worthwhile and get rid of some real mismatches (England won a WC Qualifier 20-0)

Just back from Wembley where England drew 1-1 with Sweden.
If only England had been a little more direct the game was there for the taking.
England were better once substitutions were made too. Weigman is still looking for her best starting eleven.

Glad the midfield has been changed up for this one.
I’m expecting a close and feisty match.

2-0 to England at halftime. James and a Greenwood penalty. Greenwood also missed a penalty but it was a soft award so maybe justice was done.

England winning 2-0 at HT - including one Alex Greenwood penalty scored and one missed. England's other goal came from Lauren James.

Very hard to see anything other than a solid England win here, but at least Ireland managed to start closing things down defensively after the second goal, rather than just rolling over.

Holy feck, those Campbell throw-ins are ridiculous. Very few male players can do that.

Ireland with plenty of chances. Tony Pulis would be proud of this long ball, hoof it in play from them

Was in the Aviva, like Delap they are a ridiculous weapon to have. We were right behind the goal for the penalty call, shocking decision in my book, player had no time to get out of the way of the shot. England play good football and for the most part Ireland couldn't get anywhere near them. Both penalties were shocking decisions.

It was dreadful stuff from Ireland. I got a bit fed up near the end and was keeping half an eye on the CL games on my phone instead.

Rachel Daly retires, think it's a bit early but she's not getting picked anymore.
Was a strange call to continue to play her at fullback when she was WSL top scorer last season

She played right back in 2019 then left back in the Euros. Until then I thought she was a defender and not a forward (which she has always been at club level).
Incredible versatility.

Women's Euro qualifying kicks off again tonight - Lionesses have a vital double header against group favourites France

After a poor start Vs Sweden we have to pick up points here
