Television The Leftovers (TV Show)

I’ve just finished this having started a few weeks back, obviously years late. What an outrageously good show!

I’m just looking through the thread, I know everyone loves International Assassin and it is very good, but episode 6 of season 3 is one of the greatest episodes of any series I’ve ever watched.

I’m sort of sickened it’s over but they nailed it to be fair. Fantastic tv.
Your life will never be the same again.

They nailed the landing. The finale was perfect, with ambiguity being the point. Or at least making it clear that each characters perspective of their own story/beliefs and perceptions of the factual truth of each other's story wasn't strictly important.

Loved it.

Ambiguity is a risky way to end a show/film. It can work brilliantly, e.g. The Leftovers or Blade Runner, but it can fall flat like the end of The Sopranos.

Let's not forget the Max Richter score.

Saw this thread pop up the other day. I just finished the finale and I'm crying like a baby.

What a beautiful show.

The one with the Laurie focus right? Yeah that was ace.

It was perfect, because the point it the show was never to "figure out the mystery". So it doesn't really matter whether she was telling the truth or not.

Actually, the season 2 intro song already told us.

I'm currently looking for a new show to fill the void after I've finished a re-watch of Stranger Things, Breaking Bad, Dexter, Better Call Saul, Prison Break, Lost, 24, latest season of From and all my favourite "comfort" shows. I'm now in that awful bit post series where I'm felling a little bit lost and don't want to start another.

I've heard this is meant to be good, but know almost zero about it. I've read a few spoiler free reviews and it sounds ok, is it a recommended watch?

A fantastic show. Slightly depressing but the acting is amazing. Definite recommend. I think it's highly underrated as a great show. The story is interesting, great philosophical and psychological angles to it. Great music/score and only 3 seasons so not too long.

It's a miserable TV show. Don't think you will like it judging by your "comfort" shows.

Boring, absurd and depressing. Nice music score though.

Yeah, it's good.

I love it. One of the few great shows to not go to shit and/or end badly which makes it an all timer. In fact 2nd and 3rd season are better than the 1st.

Haven't re-watched it but I don't watch enough TV anymore to re-watch shows.

The show's creator was a big producer/writer on Lost.

Some conflicting viewpoints here

It's up there with The Wire and Band of Brothers. It's sort of emotionally draining, sure, but I wouldn't listen to anyone who says it doesn't fit your comfort shows. If you liked Lost and Breaking Bad, you'll like this. It's not like those were a laugh a minute either.

Watch this immediately.

Sidebar but I do remember feeling personally attacked when the titles changed to this.

I was a bit put off at first, but it's honestly become one of my favourite intros. I thought the season 1 intro was a bit too dramatic, and for some reason this one just works. I remember being disappointed when the season 3 intro started and they had the same intro but with different songs. Then the penultimate episode had the original intro song, and I was very excited because I knew what that meant. And I genuinely felt emotional when this song came on for the finale, though that might have something to do with how prepared I was for the episode.

And what a fecking episode.

I binged it last year so never really got used to it, am tempted by a rewatch at the moment though to enjoy all those kinds of details.

Ah, I see! The wait definitely enhanced the experience for me. I don't like it when great TV is released all at once, but of course when it's out already I can't stop myself from bingeing either.
